GF Diet and Steroids found effective for "most" ca

It's interesting that all of the doctors involved in the study are affiliated with Mayo Clinic. Is this the study that another post discussed? We were hesitantly excited that Mayo was finally considering the relationship between gluten and collagenous sprue.
This positive study result will hopefully give the "theory" some credibility.
Thank you for posting this, Delta.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Very Interesting, Dan,
Did you catch what the research project proved, (but was not mentioned in the article, of course)?
Here's an abstract of the original article:
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_o ... e231755415
Note the mention of:
Will wonders never cease?
Not only that, but it proves that there is an overlap between collagenous sprue, and collagenous colitis, (suggesting, perhaps, that they are one and the same disease).
I wonder if anyone in the medical profession will notice either of those concepts, and draw any worthwhile conclusions from them.

Note the mention of:
By definition, subeipithelial collagen deposition in the stomach is known as collagenous gastritis, and subepithelial collagen deposition in the colon is clearly collagenous colitis. The project therefore proved that a combination of the gluten-free diet, and steroid treatment is effective therapy for collagenous colitis.Subepithelial collagen deposition in the colon or stomach was noted in 8 patients.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Gloria,
Interesting observation. Thanks for mentioning that. Yes, the article we discussed previously was this one, I believe:
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/716491
Note that even though this appears to be the same group of researchers, they reached a totally different conclusion, about what appears to be the same group of research subjects. The concluded that,
IOW, because some of the subjects did not have either of the two common celiac genes, they could not have celiac sprue, and therefore it is unnecessary for them to follow the GF diet.
If both these articles were indeed published by the same team of researchers, then judging by their findings, I can only conclude that they were either high on drugs when they wrote one or both of those articles, or they have serious mental issues. Ether way, it's painfully obvious that the GI department of the Mayo Clinic seems to have major issues with good judgment, and common sense. How embarrassing for them, and how sad for their patients.

"Life-long gluten-free diet might be unnecessary in the absence of genetic predisposition to celiac disease, and anti-inflammatory treatment alone may suffice in these patients."

Gabes,
The odds of the Mayo Clinic researchers acknowledging that they have demonstrated the points that I mentioned, are probably no better than the odds of you seeing that flying pig. I doubt that they even realize what they have shown, and considering their attitude, they would probably deny it, if someone pointed it out to them.
Yep, you're right - I don't have a heck of a lot of faith in the GI department at the Mayo Clinic. They have repeatedly demonstrated their unique talent for ignoring the facts, in order to perpetuate the myth that there is no such thing as non-celiac gluten-sensitivity.
Here's the flying pig that you wanted, by the way.
