Memorial Day

Post by Jan »

Today, May 30th, was the official Memorial Day until the early 1970s. This is a day to honor our military troups. I know there are a few on this board so I want to thank each of you for the service you do for our country. Without you, and the ones before you, we would not have the freedoms we have today.

Jan,

I had forgotten all about that change - thanks for bringing it up.

And, I definitely join you in offering my respect, admiration, and thanks, to all those who help to keep this country safe, and who work so hard to preserve our precious freedoms. Our world, as we know it, could not exist without you.

I also add my appreciation to the servicemen and servicewomen who put themselves at risk to protect the freedoms we enjoy (and sometimes take for granted).

May I add my thanks and gratitude to all of you in the military. My sister is a nurse in the National Guard and my father was a World War 2 vet who was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He served in Pattons 3rd Army and received a purple heart among other honors. They are heroes to me as well as all who give up so much and put their lives in peril so we can enjoy the freedoms we have. Happy Memorial Day to all, JoAnn

I'll just add to all of the above sentiments - so well-worded!

Went to the Giants' game today and there were many references to the holiday (Marine honor guard carrying the colors, camera shots of servicemen and their families attending the game, taped sentiments shared by players etc.) it was really nice to see, as it seems in recent years the holiday has been viewed as "the kickoff of summer" so I really loved seeing the true meaning given it's due...

Oh - did anyone else watch the HBO miniseries "The Pacific"? We really enjoyed it, and I have the utmost of respect for "the greatest generation". If you enjoyed "Band of Brothers" you'll like it!

We'll be going to a ceremony in town tomorrow...

I too would like to thank all veterans past and current but would like to add a thank you as well to the families who endure. As a wife of a retired veteran I understand all too well the sacrifice made both from soldier to the families of the soldier. Our country is so blessed to have such wonderful men and women dedicated to serving our freedom and the lack of in other countries! God bless them all!!!!

And as a Canadian, I, too, would like to express my gratitude to all Canadian, American, British and European men and woman who serve in their county's military. My partner's son, (my step-son) is in Afghanastan now, with the Canadian Air Force, and has three months left of his tour to do.

I would like to add to the list Australians and all others who risk their lives to bring decency and the hope of peace to this complex and dangerous world.

Best wishes, Ant

I too am thankful and pray for all that serve our country and those who have in the past. I currently have a son-in-law and a nephew serving in the Army. We also have many friends who have children serving.

Happy Memorial Day to all!

Love,
Mars
