Nurse Nestles 4th Birthday

Post by Joefnh »

As several of you know, I have a wonderful golden retriever named Nestle who over the last several months has earned the nickname 'Nurse Nestle'

I had a very rough month of April which was also the time I was finally diagnosed with crohns and CC.

During that month Nestle went from playful 'puppy' to a very caring gentle friend who would not leave my side, this earned her the nickname 'Nurse Nestle'

it was her 4th birthday last week, and it seemed right that I should post a couple of pictures of her taken last Thursday

Great photos, Joe!

I also have a golden (dark like Nurse Nestle, altho I hear the term is now "red") who will be 14 in Aug. It is my 5th golden - can't imagine having any other breed. Your story is so characteristic - goldens seem to be able to tune into your very soul, don't they? I don't think I could ever live without one.

Here's to NN:

Polly they do seem to know how we are feeling and to a degree what we are thinking. I'm sure a lot of it is their attentiveness to body language; that coupled with their social personalities and gentle ways make them an excellent breed.

I have had many dogs over the years, but Nestle has been beyond special since she was a puppy.

We just watched a wonderful movie about a dog. The name of the movie is HACHI. A true story. The original dog and his master were from China. Everyone I know who has watched it has cried at the end. I highly recommend it.

The heartwarming true story of a loyal dog named Hachiko. This very special friend would accompany his master to the train station everyday and return each afternoon to greet him after work. Even after his master passed away, he continued to return to the same spot at the station every day for the next nine years to wait for his beloved master. During his daily visits he touched many lives and taught the local people about love, compassion, and above all unyielding loyalty.

Thanks everyone for the Nestle Birthday wishes. Nestle enjoyed a lamb shank bone for her birthday with extra meat left on it. She continues to be an excellent friend and is learning about MC through my experiences.

Dogs are truly Man's Best Friend! Happy Birthday Nurse Netles!

We have always had dogs in our family and wouldn't want to go without one. We have a female blood hound we rescued 7 years ago..........she knows that we saved her and has been the most loyal dog we have had the pleasure of being owned by - :) Seriously, YOU are owned by the DOG in this breed!

She is the love of our life, as I know Netles is to you!

Hugs,
Mars

What a beautiful photo's of a beautiful dog, the red or dark color golden retrievers means a lot to me. In my whole life I only had one dog, it was while I was still living with my parents, that dog, Astor, looks exactly the seem as Nurse Nestle, especially that face+ eyes half closed, open mouth with tongue hanging half out of it. Looks like a standard retriever look. During day time and the evening Astor was lying on my bed, when I got to bet he got off and was sleeping in front of my bed and during night I kicked him out because he was snoring. Still miss that dog. He died when he was almost 13 years old, for a retriever quite old.

But back to nurse nestle, nurse nestle happy 4th birthday and hopefully many years to go.

Thanks Harma. I'm glad that you have fond memories of Astor. I am finding Nestle has not only helped out when I am not feeling well, but also helps fill an empty house. Its great to come home and she is either waiting outside for me or greets me at the door (with her stuffed duck). Dogs really can be special.

Thanks to Gabes,Tex, Polly, Ant, Joan, Harma, Kim and many many others, I have been able to understand this disease, and embrace the changes necessary to move on learn how to live with MC and crohns. It has not been an easy few months, but it has been manageable and is getting better.

Thanks for all of the birthday greetings for Nestle, she also has been there in her own way.
