New research shows that artificial sweeteners are linked with pre-term delivery. In a study of almost 60,000 Danish women, For those who drank sugar-sweetened beverages, there was no relationship between the level of consumption, and the risk of a pre-term delivery (in other words, it didn't matter how many sugar-sweetened soft drinks they consumed each day, their risk of a pre-term delivery was not increased). For those who drank one or more servings of artificially sweetened drinks a day, however, their risk of a pre-term delivery was increased by 38%. For those who drank four or more servings per day, the risk of a pre-term delivery was increased 78%.
