Dear Polly,

So far so good. I only bought one bar so it was not much of a "challenge" I suppose. But it is a good sign. I need to buy some more and see what happens. :ChefStirringPot:

:xfingers: Good news!

I seem to tolerate chocolate now, too. The trick for me is to find choc. without soy or dairy.

Love,

Polly

Yeah for both of you!

From my work with people with food sensitivities and my training with MRT/LEAP I have learned that we can regain oral tolerance of many things that once made us ill (not the damaging lectins though). The key to not developing a new sensitivity is rotate it and not overeat it. Ant, one time is enough of a challenge - you can tolerate it, but just don't overeat it.

Don't know if they are free of everything you have to avoid, Polly. The chips are micro-mini for some reason. Gloria melts them and puts them in candy molds.

I hope I can eat them some day......

Good news on the chocolate front, Ant! It's such a good feeling to be able to add back something we really like!

Mary Beth, that is interesting about the food rotation, which I always have believed is a problem and I actually think that is what is happening to me with some of my foods. I am so limited and I eat the same things over and over. Some items I have eaten in the past are now taboo. It can really be frustrating when you have so very little to choose from.

Ant, enjoy the chocolate! Fortunately for me that is something I don't crave..................like a couple of fried eggs and bacon! Ginny

Ginny,

I'm doing a 3-day rotation diet in order to avoid getting new intolerances. I think some people can eat the same things every day without becoming intolerant, but my immune system seems to be on constant lookout for new things to fight. Once you get the hang of the rotation, it's not too hard. I can only eat three meats and three vegetables, so I eat the same meat, same vegetable, and same grain every three days. Trying to rotate grains is a little trickier because baked goods require a combination of grains. Nonetheless, I eat buckwheat tortillas one day and corn tortillas another day. I eat a combination of quinoa, amaranth, and arrowroot on the third day.

It's still not enough food to keep me from losing weight. I'm down to 91.5 lbs. and people are starting to get worried about me. My body fat, according to my scale, is 12-14%. My recent blood test showed that I was low in postassium. Quinoa and Brussels sprouts are high in postassium, so I'm trying to increase the quantities of those. I've also started drinking almond milk, but am afraid to use it frequently in case I become intolerant. I fear that's what happened with rice, so I'm avoiding it right now. I've also had to eliminate olives and olive oil, probably because they're high in histamines. I also suspect rhubarb is giving me mouth sores, so that's out of my diet, too. Hopefully there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Gloria

sorry to hear that you are struggling with your weight, i agree about the rotation and combining, i wrote in a post of go-west's that there some ingredients that i cant eat at the same time but away from each other they are fine.

Hi Gabes,

Thank you for asking.

My daughter and granddaughters left last Thursday evening and the remainder of the fallen tree was removed yesterday. We're happy we can use our front door again. It was a pretty stressful time - I developed over a dozen itchy bumps on my head, which went away and then returned. I also had some on my neck. I'm not sure if it was due to the stress or a reaction to what I was eating. They seem to be gone now. It's the first time I've ever had itchy bumps on my scalp. I'm really beginning to think I have a mast cell problem.

The restoration company will begin making the repairs to the roof, interior and broken windows next Monday. We had contemplated leaving for Germany on Sunday, but realized that we needed to be here for the repairs. DH and I are OK with staying home. Thank you and others who helped in giving me many suggestions and links for the trip. I may go some other time and will be able to use the information then.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying the peace and quiet of an empty-nester again.

That certainly does sound suspicious. Those bumps would almost surely have to be due to an IgE type reaction.

Sorry you needed to cancel/postpone indefinitely the trip to Germany.
