advice from the wise ones

Post by Gabes-Apg »

just seeking some advice from the 'wise ones'

i am off work today, (tuesday). on the weekend i was more tired than normal at the time i thought it was overtiredness from a big week at work, on Sunday i started getting stabbing pains in my intestine, during Monday this change to a constant mild pain, that would get worse when i got in and out of my chair or picked up my work bag. And still have the fatigue

i was not sure if it was flare or not as i have not really had D. I have softer motions maybe an additional Bm per day than normal.

my question is, can i have a flare and not have D as the main symptom?

I am strugging to sit up on the lounge and use the laptop, the pain gets worse the longer i am standing or sitting, when i lay down the pain goes away.

I had a small dose of questran (2mg) on the weekend, other than that i have not had meds for at least 1.5 weeks

Oh yes I recognize the pain without having D, in my case, most of the time it depends on what I have been eating. Friday I'd tried brussels sprouts. I didn't get any D, but I gave my cramps and stabbing pain.

What you are describing I recognize from earlier MC times, just after the dx and start entocort, but before the diet. If I got to busy, mental or physical, the result was cramping and stabbing pain. When I would lie down it would go away.

Hi Gabes,

Sorry to hear about the symptoms. I agree with Harma, that it is possible to react without D. As she mentions, I think that such reactions are caused by certain foods, (not by the foods that usually cause us to have D, for example). Before my gut healed, I always reacted that way to beef, for example. I got bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, aches, pain, a stiff neck and usually a headache, but no D. Now that I have been in remission for years, I can eat beef without any problems.

Since it's winter there, there's also an increased possibility that you may have picked up some sort of "stomach" virus.

I hope that whatever it is, it goes away soon.

thanks tex and harma
it is nice to know that i am not going crazy.

it is winter, and we have had a cold snap this week. Touch wood, i have been very lucky and have not had any colds etc.

had a disturbed nights sleep and the pain is still there. yesterday i only ate rice and poached chicken, if it was ingredient related i thought it would have settled down by now, i will increase my zinc.

and Harma - thanks for the advice, while i am laying resting i am thinking about work (and the work that i am not doing) today i will make sure i relax properly

Hi Gabes, I hope you are continuing to feel better. I have experienced a few times the pains like you are talking about. Each time they did occur during a flare, and made it hard to stand up straight. Are you running a fever when you have these symptoms?

Hope you feel better soon

these pains are a bit different to what i had experienced during the "ibs days" and what you described above.

at the moment it is a constant pain that gets worse when i sit up for too long or move around for too long

my mind is working over time about work and deadlines i am missing, and i struggle with the concept that my body can not keep up with what my mind wants to do

This may sound a stupid advice, but please don't think to hard to figure out what it could be, making the over time hours up there. Just try to leave it for a while and focus on something else, relax or maybe meditate on it. Than, quite often, out of the blue the answer will pop up in your head.

At least that is my experience. thinking about it, okay, but also let go of it and than in a blink it is all clear, what it is.

for control freaks who want to understand everything not always easy (mainly talking about myself) but every time it amazes me, how it works.

Gabes,

I'm sorry you're having pain. I would suspect diverticulitis - do you have diverticulosis? Is the pain on your left side?

I've had similar pain with a hernia, also.

I hope it's just a temporary problem and will go away soon.

I hope this settles down soon

hi joe
i am same same at the moment, too much moving around and the pain becomes unbearable.

i got up to get ready for work and half way through the routine the pain was so bad i am back resting on the lounge.

i think the small amount of dairy was the final straw, i am pretty sure the current situation is due to me running out of energy and adrenalin, i used alot of adrenalin to do the trip to france, returning straight back to work with no break to a new job with stresses, househunting with TK on the weekend, the demand of the meetings last week, and then going away.
i think once i got to the weekend to a relaxing environment, there was no adrenalin left
i was pretty tired on the weekend and slept alot

For you newbies, if you haven't located the list of code words for poop I suggest you look at it. I showed my son and now he reports back on the status of his poop - his fave is puff poopie

Gabes,

Following up on what Gloria mentioned - you're a little young for diverticulosis, but did your colonoscopy report by any chance show any mention of diverticuli?

Where is the pain centered?

I am about to book an appointment with the GP for tomorrow, not that they can do anything but i can get results of the blood tests i did this week, any advice anyone has on any further tests i should consider requesting will be appreciated
