no more bloating

Post by harma »

one of the differences I have been noticing for a while is that my stomach is flatter. Before the gluten free diet, in morning is was always flat but in the evening is had swollen up. I had it for so long, that it had become a "normal". That was the way I was or caused by IBS. But it is amazing how this has changed, I had noticed it before, but than sometimes it still got swollen up a little. But since a couple of weeks, not at all anymore.

Why I am writing this here? for me is it one of those small markers that shows a difference and a result of the diet. Those small things that can make me really happy and keep my going.

For those who just started a gluten free diet, it took me up to 7 months to see this difference. Patience play an important role in the cure of this disease.

Harma,

That's excellent information for anyone new to the diet.

Thanks for posting that.

That's great news Harma. It does seem to take a while, but certainly a sign of healing

Gloria

i agree totally,
it is uncanny that any day i am having a down day, i log on and see a note like harma's and it gives me hope and the encouragement to keep going.

i read notes where others are really struggling with the acceptance and the concept of embracing the changes to do with MC, and realise the angels were really looking after me the day i found this family and the unconditonal support to embrace life with MC

Have a great week everyone

Harma, my stomach is also back to normal. I no longer look pregnant. A good feeling. It took a lot of hard work and I would never have been able to accomplish it without this group. Thanks to everyone again.

Congratulations Harma!

It is amazing how we appreciate things that a lot of people take for normal. After all these years I still get the bloating off and on and usually have a poor self image in the evening when it happens. Dealing with it right now but I know it too shall pass.

We must all remember to celebrate these "special" things.

Love, Maggie

Harma,
Isn't it a great feeling? I was beginning to think I should shop in the maternity section. I looked 4 months pregnant after the first bite of food every day. I could barely see my feet by evening! I thought it was related in-part to having kids, and I resented all the moms who could parade around in tank tops, fitted shirts and dresses. I've only bought A-line baggy dresses and baggy shirts for some time. Busting the buttons on pants was no fun either!

Lucky for me, the bloating went down DRASTICALLY in less than 10 days on the GF/DF/YF diet. I read that for many celiacs, the bloating is not just air in the intestines, it's intestinal and colon swelling from inflammation and accompanying water weight gain throughout the body. In this example, a guy who worked out at a gym for years could not gain muscle or definition. After going gluten free, he's trimmer, more chiseled looking and finally gaining some muscle mass.

I wasn't aware that was a fact, but I've always suspected it. Thanks for pointing that out. I recall that when I first went "through the clinic" and took all the tests, (to figure out why I had uncontrollable D), the first one was a CAT scan, (they were looking for colon cancer), and the operator mentioned that the walls of my colon appeared to be abnormally thick. I didn't know what that meant at the time, and every doctor that I asked about it, just gave me a blank stare.

That's just one more reason why I have always suspected that I am a celiac, though none of my doctors ever bothered to test for it. :sigh:

Thanks,
Tex
