10 course degustation - GF DF
This week I was lucky enough to go to a work function in Melbourne. The dinner was a formal affair for about 50 people, and the menu was a 10 course degustation with each course coming from a top local restaurant and paired with suitable wines etc. I was nervous about this.
Well talk about drop dead awesome. I told the organiser I needed Gluten and Dairy free, but still I was worried. As soon as I picked up my name badge at the event she told me they had my needs all sorted, and she would note where I sat and make sure I got the right meal. You could have knocked me over with a feather. As each course came out a waiter appeared with a special dish just for me, confirming each time it was gluten and dairy free, ma'am. And they were good. For the fish course, I had the same portion of fish, but different garnishes. Same with the scallops. For the soup, I had a completely separate soup (tomato and capsicum) while they had hot and sour soup, and so it went for all ten courses. Beef cheeks with green beans and chats (instead of mash), a couple of simple prawns on salad instead of prawn fritters. For the cheese course, I had the same fancy artglass plate as everyone else with artfully arranged dried fruits and nuts. Desert was a simple very finely cut fruit salad in a fancy bowl. Only bit they didn't duplicate was the fancy chocolates with coffee!!
The following day they had a waiter hanging around to hand me my special snack at the seminar breaks etc. Very cool. Desert after lunch was a good idea to remember - finely chopped strawberries mixed with passionfruit pulp and served with broken up pavlova (soft meringue). Looked like cream, served the function of cream, but safe.
Why can't regular restaurants provide this level of service? Maybe we just need deeper pockets, cause I expect all this did not come cheap. Oh, and absolutely no ill effects after eating all this fancy stuff, so they got it right.
Quite inspirational really.

What a wonderful experience, Lyn! Wouldn't it be great if every dining out experience were that way? Yes, it probably would be prohibitively expensive, but what a treat once in a while.
It's amazing that you didn't have any reactions, either.

the delight of eating out - no issues no stress. It is like opening presents on christmas morning!!
great news lyn - and have a great time in cairns, great time of year to be up there.
my trip to canberra is still being discussed.. we postponed the last one as I was home sick.
With the election this week we postponed it as there were no flights out of canberra. i think we have a tentative date of the end of the month
