so anyone have spasms in rectum or colon?

Post by wonderwoman »

I have been doing very good on Entocort since beginning it on July 30. In fact I reduced it to 2 every other day and now two every day. I did this because the stools were pretty hard and as regular as clockwork, between 6 and 7:00 every morning. Except for yesterday when I didn’t go until 9:30am and again at 11:30am and 10:30 at night. All three times I was having so much pressure in the rectum and thought, gee I wish I could have a BM. Each time I strained and was able to pass only a small amount. And the stool was quite hard. Quite a difference from the D I experienced for months. Then this morning I woke up at 3:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep. At 4:00am the same feeling of discomfort and I was able to pass a small amount. Then at 5:00am I had the true feeling that my bowels were going to move and I had a very nice Norman BM.

For quit some time now (and even before Entocort) I have been experiencing this strange feeling in my rectum several times a day. When I saw the GI on July 8 I told the nurse about it. I said it feels like my rectum is pumped up with air and ready to explode. It’s not a painful feeling, but just this pressure there. An uncomfortable feeling. I don’t pass gas or have the urge to have a BM, it’s just this full feeling. The nurse said it’s probably spasms. I tend to think of spasms as contracting and releasing over and over and that’s not what’s happening. I may be aware of it for an hour or so and then it goes away only to return again later. I would say I have it daily but don’t know how many times during the day.

When the doctor came into the exam room I mentioned it to him and he said the same, that it was spasms. He said that’s why we have to get you in for another sigmoidoscopy which I had on July 16th. He took six biopsies. Afterwards, they told me the lab report was normal, however, I haven’t seen the report yet. Will get copies when I see him again on Aug 26.

I googled rectal and colon spasms but find them talking more about the abdomen rather than the rectum. I began typing this because I was experiencing this very uncomfortable feeling again. But with having a good BM at 5 this morning I don’t feel I should be ready to go again. I wonder if I should add some fruit besides bananas and applesauce to my diet.

Has anyone else experienced this feeling?

Hi Charlotte. I've been experiencing the exact same thing over the past couple of days with my current flare up. Sigh. Hang in there. Mia

I have the same feeling when I'm having problems. When I have Normans, I don't feel the pressure all day.
