Hi all,
I haven't been around much so haven't kept up with reading posts. I hope everyone is doing well/better/improving/not too bad! Happy birthday to those I've missed!

I just wanted to mention that some of us (me) have MC (CC) we think is triggered by [overuse of] NSAIDs. I have reinforced that theory. We were visiting the grandchildren and I wanted to "keep up" so I was taking meloxicam (an NSAID which had been prescribed for my sciatica) every day. I started a ridiculous flare that didn't let up until a week after I discontinued use and all the drug was out of my system. Once again I'm reminded it's acetaminophen or nothing for me!

The forum focuses a lot on diet and that is probably the deal for most of us, but not all! If any of you have developed MC after using a lot of pain relievers for arthritis or some such, be suspicious!

What a great reminder! We get stuck on food to the point we often forget other things that can cause problems.. even the fillers in vitamins can be a problem too.

Hi Kathy. I tried the low dose aspirin thing- even that set off a flare for me. So I too think the no NSAID thing must be right.

Kathy is right, of course. It's not just NSAIDs, though. We have several members who have been able to control their symptoms simply by avoiding certain medications. One, for example, was able to control her symptoms by discontinuing the use of a proton pump inhibitor. Once she stopped using it, she was fine. One or two others have been able to control their symptoms by discontinuing the use of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

Cases of that sort are frequently resolved by GI docs, because dietary changes are not necessary, in order to maintain remission.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
