Seriously, why can't my DH and I be orphans

Post by Stanz »

and live on an island with cable TV and Internet and have no $ issues and have our food brought in for us? Is that too much to ask? I've been good.

I'm just venting and I won't have time to respond to this post because I'm working for the next 2 wks w/o a break and am just so tired already. I love my family but I am just so tired of being a me right now. Constipated this morning, full on D tonight, just need some peace.

Vent away in my absence!!!!

Stress is no way to end a summer! Hope things get better soon.

My vent? Had my extended in-law family in town for my 6 year old's birthday. I made GF pancakes (Trader Joe's mix which I really like) for myself and my kids, and since there was extra, my DH and Father-in-Law each had one. DH would not eat it, said it was "just horrible", not edible, etc. and threw it out. Then my FIL, a kind soft-spoken kind of guy, later said they were "really nasty." Both those remarks were uttered in front of the kids, so now they won't eat them either!! They never had a problem with them before! And gluten intolerance could be their destiny someday soon!! AAARGH!

Not to mention the full weekend of restaurant food, watching everyone enjoy pizza, fries, pasta, breaded fish, sushi, ice cream, etc. while I ate the same boring salads or meat/vegetable/potato.

We topped off the weekend with a MC-unfriendly home-made dinner of charred ribs, salad, grilled vegetables, red wine and maragaritas. I ate it all. But the good news? No D yet!! Shocking!

Family members can behave so thoughtlessly, sometimes. I suppose that's just human nature - to speak without thinking.

Regarding the pancakes: Trader Joe's mix is rated pretty highly, as GF, DF pancake mixes go. Pamela's is better, and many people rate it as better than anything available, GF or otherwise. Unfortunately, though, it contains cultured buttermilk, so it's not an option for anyone sensitive to casein.] It also contains tapioca starch, which is a problem for some of us. I'm fortunate, in that I don't have any problems with the ingredients, and IMO, these are as good, or better, than any pancakes I have ever eaten. I've never tried Trader Joe's mix, though, because we don't have a TJ store anywhere around here.

It's sad that they would make such statements with the kids present. The irony is that they would probably never consider using profanity, or vulgar language in front of impressionable kids, and yet their reactions, and what they said, might have far more bothersome long-term consequences for those youngsters, than using "bad" language could ever do.

As most of us discover, sooner or later - family members just don't get it. I feel your frustration, and I'm sorry that happened. :sigh:

i had some friends recently ask me why i had become slightly intravert and i replied that the challenges of this condition (dealing with good days and bad days and fatigue), the diet, and doing what you can to avoid contimination etc, it is easier to distance yourself a bit, and then somedays it is just that I cant handle watching people eating foods that i am not able to.

Connie, it is only because of the challenging journey we have had to get to this point, that we would truely appreciate that island.

Family and Friends reactions to food items, and meals may seem thoughless but maybe subconciously maybe the concept of having to live like we do scares them.......
how many people have said 'I would die if i had to give up chocolate or I would die if i had to give up beer'
it is tooo hard for them to concept their lives without their favourite items.....

The desert island would have midges, I am sure. Having just been up north reminds we why I am living here.

But the orphans part has it's attractions. Imagine not feeling responsible for the poor decisions of your parents. How cool would that be!

My vent would be: why can't landscapers call me back, come up with solutions to problems and give me a b****y quote!.

Zizzle - I am sure many people have the idea that GF stuff must be bad and approach it only prepared to find fault. DH has finally worked out that GF isn't all that bad. He is now eating GF cornflakes and happily ate my mini mudcakes on the weekend. It is like a light turning on to suddenly realise that an items GF status has nothing to do with whether or no he'll like it, after previously working on the assumption that GF = yucky.

Oh Stanz,

That sounds wonderful! Count me in.

No vents today - am still too enmired (is that a word?) in grief over Rusty. But I'll take a rain check for a future rant. LOL!

I am sending you some peace........
