Another trip to the doc this week with kidney pain that had been going on for 2+ weeks. No stones per the CT scan but the doc (primary DO) says that it could be related to the colitis and the pain is spasms.
Any thoughts on this DX?
I know that I am sick to death of this pain - it does feel like spasms but so does the pain associated with stones.

Hmmmmmm. That's a tough question. I'm sorry to hear that you're having to deal with this again - it just seems to never end, so that makes me think that your doctors must be overlooking something.
Thinking back, I believe that whenever I had any significant abdominal pain, I was bloated, so I always assumed that the pain was related to that, (except for the times when I've been constipated, of course). Do you have any swelling/bloating?
Have you considered that the pain might be caused by kidney spasms? Have you ever had any problems with endometriosis? Maybe this article contains some clues:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Endrometriosis - yes - have had surgery for that and a hysterectomy along with it. Interesting that the article mentions that the kidney can "drop" since organs have been removed. I guess that would require additional testing and probably a trip to a specialist. sigh
Kidney spasms is what they have DX'd me with although no reason behind them.
I forgot to say that he put me on Flomax to see if that helps. Although it generally given to men, it can help with spasms. The treatment is Vicodin, Flomax and a heating pad.

when i get bowel inflammed pain/discomfort i feel it more at the back than the front
i tend to be bloated at the front and pain at the back.
during my teenage years when i had bouts of this and at times i was hospitalised
they confirmed it was not appendix and when nothing showed up on blood tests, urine tests, scans/x-rays they called it 'growing pains'
do you have any other digestion symptoms?

Remember---the many times I posted that I NEVER suffered with any pain while in the clutches of this damn disease--and I offen said how fortunate I was compared to many who do~~~~~

Just an overall feeling of BLAH - no energy, no hunger and generally just don't feel good ~ besides the pain, that is.
I'm just frustrated - I don't buy into the fact that you have pain for no reason - it's just that the docs don't know what it is thru the normal CT scan.

that is what i had a while back, (and was off work for 3 days)
it was the same week that Tex found the articles that you can have MC flares and no D - for me it explained alot.
it is not pain for no reason, it is pain that hides a bit and make it difficult to confirm the exact cause ( IMO it is the MC cheeky monkey playing games)
the frustrating part is that it is in your central core so everything you do is uncomfortable, getting up, sitting down, bending over etc etc
i hope you feel better soon, and regardless of what is causing the pain that it abates really soon

So sorry to hear that you are still struggling with this issue. I'm trying to think of something to add, but can't think of much. The pain must be wicked if you need Vicodin for relief. Spasms certainly can cause that kind of pain. If the spasms are in the colon (MC-related), then perhaps Bentyl might help. Have you ever tried it? Of course, with your history of endometriosis and pelvic surgery, you are certainly at risk for adhesions, which can cause significant pain.
One other thought.........are you following any dietary restrictions? I ask, because as we have seen here, gluten can be the root cause of so many different and unexpected symptoms. For sure, the lack of energy and general malaise that you are experiencing. As you know, folks here have found gluten to be related to all kinds of symptoms/problems that docs have no clue about - pancreatic problems, mouth sores, rashes, neurological problems, possibly lupus and fibromyalgia, etc. I'm not at all suggesting that you have these conditions - just that gluten can masquerade like nothing else can. Tex is probably the best spokesperson about the long-term effects.
Anyway, I am thinking of you and hoping for a resolution to this pain. Having constant pain is exhausting in itself.

They think though, whatever is wrong with my kidney/bladder may be caused by the medication (as these new problems started about 4 weeks after the start of medication and is the time that any major issues may appear again), yet as my family is riddled with medical conditions they just want to rule everything else out before this.
Could it be your medication?
