Treat for those with multiple intolerances

Post by Gabes-Apg »

for those with multiple intolerances

this is a GF/DF/YF/SF low fat low sugar birthday cake!!! (you can make it vegan/EF via egg replacement)

Image

This is the Orgran brand chocolate cake mix, i used the Orgran brand chocolate mouse mix (again GF/DF/YF/SF) as the icing, used the bonvita white chocolate (GF/DF/SF) grated on top and some strawberry and cream lollies (again GF/DF/SF)

it is not sickly rich, really nice with a cuppa, and those not on a specific diet had a small amt of cream with it and they said it tasted great!

Thanks for the pics of that delicious looking cake, Gabes. I i have never seen the Orgran brand of anything here in Canada. Is it available in the US, do you know? Who's birthday was it?

Love it Gabes.

All fairly standard ingredients typically in my cupboard. Except I am trying to cut down my sugar and not have the lollies around - stuck it out for a couple of weeks so far.

Last Sunday I made a Deliciously Free brand Chocolate Mud cake (Has soy, but GF/DF/YF/NF/ can be EF or low fat). Just sprinkled pure cocoa powder over the top, and served it up with fruit to a bunch of friends. Everyone merrily ate - some came back for more - and I forgot to mention there was anything different about it.

The latest freebie magazine from Coles supermarket has some GF christmas recipes. They have one using dried fruit salad (that mix of chopped dried apples, apricots, sultanas etc) that sounds very similar to one I used to make with wheat flour. So I think I'll give it a go.

One of the supermarkets near me sells Orgran brand mixes. I just checked a bread mix I purchased a while back. The ingredients are cornstarch, rice flour, guar gum and some other gums. I haven't made it because I was avoiding corn for a long time. I'll try to look at some of the other mixes in the store again.

Hi Gabes!

What a yummy-looking (and sounding) cake! I am drooling. Was it your birthday cake? Maybe one of these days I'll be able to tolerate chocolate .........sigh. Who are the others in the photo with you? Cute kiddies, BTW. At first I thought the sparklers were something they spilled on their clothes. LOL! Looks like a very festive occasion!

Love,

Polly

I am pretty sure that Orgran is available in the USA (it says that on their website)

it was my birthday, this time last year i had the pre MC diagnosis symptoms and was not well enough to celebrate, so this was a bit of a celebration of the progress i have made with the MC using diet as the main management tool

these are my 'angel' friends one of which is Maria who is my on call Naturopath, we have known each other for over 10 years..

Gabes,

It's none of my business, of course, but I'm wondering why you keep your birthday a secret? You have your profile set to display your age, but not your birthdate, and that way, the system cannot remind us of your birthday. If we knew when it was, we could post birthday greetings, and we could all celebrate. :festive:

Happy belated birthday.

Tex
the birthdate that i declared on my profile is not my real birthday....... so my age is not 100% correct either.

to protect against identify fraud (polly will understand the pain of this)
i never use my real birthday when registering on websites or disclose the date publically on the web...

i was a bit unsettled about this birthday as my life has changed alot over the past year....
my friends and i have had a tradition for 11 years that the birthday gal never makes her own cake...and your cake is a surprise, and each theme or type is never repeated. (we all used to do cake decorating)
I broke that tradition this year as I was not confident enough to trust anyone.

Happy Birthday Gabes , that's a great plan on preventing ID theft. Its becoming a real problem.

I'm glad you had a cake that you could tolerate and more importantly enjoy. We do have Orgran brand products locally in the HF store, but so far just the cookies.

Gabes,

Well, we could still celebrate the fake date. None of us other than yourself would know the difference.

Better to break a tradition, than to get sick. What the heck - all you did was to modify the tradition a little. Sometimes change is good - especially when our health is at stake.
