Microscopic Colitis (MC) is the umbrella term used to describe Lymphocitic Colitis (LC) and Collagenous Colitis (CC). Many believe LC and CC are the same disease, perhaps just at different stages. LC is T-Lymphocyte infiltratraion of the bowel wall. CC includes a thickening of the collagen band in the walls of the bowel.
To add to what Zizzle posted, though the laboratory markers for the various types of MC, (actually, roughly a dozen different types have been described, to date), are different, the clinical symptoms are the same, and the treatment is the same, for all types.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
