Having the worst flair ever

Post by IDreamInColor »

I haven't felt well at all for weeks. I have been eating less and less. Things got worse Christmas eve, the fever started (I always fever with a flair) and I felt like a hunk of junk. Christmas day I was in the bathroom with d, but only 5 times. The day after Christmas the gurgling woke me up bright and early and for those next few hours I couldn't even leave the bathroom, it was every ten minutes, for a total of 40 times from 7 a.m. till about 8 p.m. when it finally slowed down, I was completely dehydrated, my muscles were cramping, my eyes are sunken in. I haven't ate since Christmas eve and it was just a tiny portion of ham and potatoes. I'm trying to keep up my fluids with pedialyte, ginger ale, and water, I have zero appetite. I haven't had any gluten at all, I"m barely eating, and getting sicker by the day.
I don't know how much longer I can live like this. This is a horrid disease!!

Idream, I am so sorry to hear about what is happening. It doesn't seem to make sense, does it? Unless there were some nitrates or additives in the ham that are really bad for you, or you are super sensitive to nightshades (potatos are a nightshade.)

My heart goes out to you , and the only no words of wisdom I have to share are "This too shall pass". Hopefully others will have more. Please know that I am sending healing thoughts your way.

I'm very sorry to hear this. You probably should eat something regularly, to help maintain your energy, because with MC, not eating will not necessarily stop the D, (nor secretory D, at least). The only thing that will stop secretory D is dehydration, and that condition can cause very serious problems, to say the least, so please don't let that happen.

I always found that when I was in that situation, homemade chicken soup, or chicken and rice soup was the best medicine I could take.

Dehydration itself can cause D, so if gets so bad that you're not able to stay adequately hydrated, you may have to go to the ER, to get re-hydrated by means if IV infusions.

Please keep us updated.

What a terrible way to spend Christmas! I'm so sorry that you're having a bad flare. I agree with Tex; you need to eat something very soothing to your gut such as homemade soup and rice. It's also important that you keep hydrated. I hope things get better soon.

Your accompanying fever makes me wonder if you have the flu or some kind of a bug. Perhaps you need to check with your doctor.

Hi I Dream,

Hope you are starting to improve!

Just a reminder, many types of ham contain both gluten and dairy products. It seems ridiculous, but is very common. You need to either read the label carefully, (many will say gluten free, but you need to look for the lactose), or buy from an old fashioned butcher who makes his own. If they make their own you can ask if it is just salt and preservatives, and point out to them that any spices may well be gluten contaminated.

I am very lucky, a butcher friend made my ham, and I know he would take as much care as possible. It hasn't caused problems so far.

I Dream

totally understand how you feel, this was me about 12 months ago, a bad day with MC is way worse than any other bad day i have had in my life.

getting control on MC is not easy, which is why our successes are so important. Tex told me 12 months ago ' you will get your life back' and at the time i was thinking yeah right and doubted it. You can do this, you can minimise the impact of MC on your life and well being. We have all been where you are right now, we have all done the groovy 2 steps forward 1 step back dance on the road to reasonable control.

it will take some sacrifice and heap of patience.... it is totally possible with all of these wonderful people helping you along the way.
we are holding your hand and passing you tissues for the tears.

i can highly recommend going back to a very basic diet with gooey rice, clear liquids, minimal ingredients pureed, small meal portions, do this for a couple of weeks, give you body time for the inflammation to reduce... and it will. then you can increase the ingredients.

with less stress and less inflammation, medications will work better as they will be absorbed.
