Flax Seed Oil Tablets and/or Olive Oil Tablets or Fish Oil

I continue to refine my carry kit of pills (reducing them where possible), and I am wondering which oils are better? I have to use the pill form due to travel and would like to carry only one supplement if possible.
I have tried them all and seem to believe that flax seed oil may be optimum for me.
Also, does anyone have a preference for a probiotic? Years ago I took VSL#3 but as it requires refrigeration, that is no longer practical. So for the last couple weeks, I have been taking Philips colon health. And I think that is helping.

Mary Beth posted a review of various OTC probiotics, and Culturelle rated pretty high. I use DF Culturelle, which is less available and slightly more expensive than the regular Culturelle.
I suppose all probiotics should be refrigerated; Whole Foods refrigerates their probiotics, but the drug store where I purchase DF Culturelle does not. I refrigerate it once I take it home.

I have no preference on oils - just be careful, since too much oil can cause D. Probiotics never worked for me - always made the MC worse. Go figure.
Also, don't forget that, with all of your traveling, you don't want your probiotic to be xrayed in the airport. Since they are live organisms, they can be damaged/killed.

I don't know if it's just a coincidence, or if there's a sound reason, but flax seed oil seems to be promoted for joint issues, whereas fish oil is promoted for cardiovascular benefits.
I take both.

Polly, thanks for the kind note about my last post. I really felt it necessary to sum up my year with all of you. That is part of my healing process. I am really trying to do some positive thinking and mind over matter in 2011. I like the aspirin idea because of my family history of heart attacks, etc. But you are probably correct that I don't need really it right now. And regarding erosion of the colon due to GI prep, I feel that that process is more damaging than helpful as well. There must be a better way. Perhaps some day a Dyanmic MRI will have the sensitivity to visualize intra-layer inflammation in the colon. I didn't think about Xray and probiotics. I am going to have to do some research on that. Out of my my home airport we use the millimeter wave scanners. But they still make me put all of my personal effects on the xray belt. Too bad I can't make a lead shield for them. Perhaps I can?
Tex, fish oil and flax seem to make the most sense. My arthritis in my hands (knock on wood) is all but gone, perhaps the flax is helping there. I think I, however, at this point, I attribute that mostly to the Entocort I was formerly taking and the gluten-free diet. Entocort was an interesting drug for me. I think I had some level of positive reaction about 3-4 weeks into the initial course, but after that, I think it may as well have been sugar pills. I never saw the dramatic or sustained improvement form Entocort that most others on this board report.
This is why I am anxious to see this GI doc at IU in march regarding my constant lower left quadrant pain (right above my colon, about mid-way between my hip bone and my belly button). I continue to wonder if my redundant colon twists back on itself, causing much of the discomfort and dysfunction I experience on top of the LC conditions. I think it could be like a hernia or partial ileus condition (though I have been checked for obvious signs of this). I am going to ask to have a dynamic MRI performed.
Good to hear from all of you in the new year. I'm hoping that 2011 will be more calm for me and all of us. As Gabes always states so eloquently, one must savor each day (or for that matter, each moment), especially when one is feeling a little better.

Now that sounds like a multi-million dollar idea. Why not? The only real problem that I can visualize, is the need for a stain, to make the lymphocytes more visible, but there should be a workaround for that, somewhere in the technology. For some interesting reading for your next trip, get a copy of one or more of Barry Sear's zone books - such as the Anti - Inflammation Zone. It has a lot to say about arthritis, and inflammation in general. He has some interesting stuff in there about fish oil vs flax oil vs modern western diet. It takes him a lot of book (I only have three) to explain it all, so no way am I going to try!
For the record, I take 4 capsules daily of "Blackmores Omega Daily" concentrated fish oils. They have active ingredients of 352mg EPA /248mg DHA compared to a regular 1000mg fish oil which has more like 180mg EPA/120mg DHA. That is a bucketload more active ingredient.

Of course, if I remember dr Sears correctly, I have probably got the EPA/DHA ratio wrong and should be using one of the other versions in the range to get absolutely optimal.
But they don't sell them in big bottles. Your part of the world may well have similar products in different brands.

Who has never stopped being a Barry Sears fan over the last 15 years, even though I don't stick to the diet. Absolutely certain he doesn't have it all right. Equally certain he has some very valuable ideas.
