Gabes is coping brilliantly, but it got too close for comfort see:

I am currently overjoyed. Brother contacted family and he has been able to get back to his home and it is dry!!! Whoo hoo!!! Water was two houses away, but due to the slope didn't get up to his place. I had never previously noticed that gentle slope, but glad for it now. His business is also OK. He had the fun of sleeping there last night with just a blanket and pillow. Water further down the street.

No power in either place, of course. But there are well over 100,000 houses in that situation.

Another rise to come in a couple of hours time, but it will be lower than this mornings peak.

My work's Brisbane office is going to need the basement pumped before they can turn the power on. They are bringing in gear from Sydney due to the local demand. Will be mid - late next week before that is open. All the work people OK according to HR and facebook. I worked there for a couple of years, so know lots of folk there.

I'd like to hear from Liz, but her area is not going to be affected by the river rise so most likely OK. Not sure where her kid's are, though.

No loss of life reported in Brisbane yet, and may not be any. The area to the west (Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba) that was hit badly has an official toll up to 13, with about 19 for whom they hold 'grave fears' - stuff like they found the car but not the occupants.
