Do you have problems falling asleep and/or staying asleep? Maybe it would help to dim the lights, after sundown. Do you spend hours staring at a bright computer monitor, as I do? Dr. Briffa mentioned this in a recent blog, and he pointed out that we need to dim the lights a bit, after sundown, in order to keep from upsetting our biological clock. He recommended a nifty computer program, (a free download), that can automatically reduce the brightness of your computer monitor, at sundown, and restore it again after sunup, after you set it for your location. Actually, rather than to just dim the brightness of the monitor, it does much better than that - it filters out much of the blue portion of the light spectrum, (which is supposedly the cause of reduced melatonin production), after sundown. Of course, if you are doing critical image editing, and you need accurate color rendition, you can easily override the settings, anytime you want, by clicking on the icon that it puts in the system tray, in the lower right corner of your computer screen.
I'm using it, and I like it - it does seem to help me to sleep better. (It's probably just a placebo effect, but what the heck? Whatever works - right?
