Okay, All You Wise People... Need Advice

Post by MBombardier »

For the past several days I have been having some pretty bad joint and muscle pain, and I am quite stiff, especially in the mornings. I think it started about the time I was glutenized Sunday before last, but all the other gluten symptoms (including the brain fog and lack of energy) have disappeared.

Here are the possibilities I've thought of, but with all your experience, you may know something of help that I haven't thought of:

1) I've been eating rice a couple of times a day, though that's nothing new.

2) Do potato chips (source of feel-good and crunch since I have removed corn prior to challenge) have enough nightshade stuff to cause me to react? I've been eating maybe an ounce/day.

3) I was taking Tonalin (CLA) and ran out a couple of weeks ago.

4) With my renewed energy, I've been starting (slowly and easily) to exercise again.

5) The MD lowered my Armour thyroid from 60mg to 45mg about a month ago.

6) I have regular cycles (yes, even at my age!) but I seem to have skipped my period this month, totally out of the blue. I do have trouble retaining water prior to my period (which leads to muscle/joint soreness), but I don't seem to be retaining water.

As you can see, I am totally bum-fuzzled, and frustrated. I hope someone can help. If not, at least I know that you feel compassion for me! Thus endeth the whine...

Marliss,

I surely don't consider myself to be wise like the other veterans on this board, but I wonder if you are just starting to experience arthritis. My arthritis in my left hand literally appeared over night and has been with me ever since. Same happened to my big toe on my right foot about 7 years ago. Bam, there it was.

Just a thought. Does Tylenol help at all?

Marliss,

Here are my thoughts, FWIW:

I doubt that rice is the problem, but, of course, anything is possible.

I would be more suspicious of the oil that the potato chips were fried in, than the chips themselves.

I know nothing about Tonalin.

Thyroid issues can certainly causes aches and pains.

Have you had any new or increased sources of stress?

All in all, considering your hyper/hypo mix of thyroid issues, I have a hunch that this is playing a vital role in your dilemma, but I could be all wet, of course.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Out here (eastern orygun) the weather has been giving me fits. Lately it's been switching often (cloudy - sunny - rainy - inversions - air stagnation - etc). The faster the weather changes the more fibro/arthritis pain I am in. It also gives me horrible headaches and migraines. So - maybe the weather is affecting you, too.

Rich, interesting thought. We'll see how/if things progress. I don't use Tylenol because I have some sort of an allergic reaction to it, according to how the GI interpreted my symptoms (my skin starts to feel reptilian).

Tex, Tonalin is Conjugated linoleic acid, and is a supplement for my thyroid. I really need to get my thyroid issues under control. It could very well be thyroid. I've had thyroid issues so long, I've sort of gotten used to them, KWIM?

Robbie, as you know, the weather in Portland tends to be schizoid between the ocean and mountains. Right now, there is a stagnation warning. I've never had trouble with the weather, but I suppose there is always a first time.

Hi Marliss,

I get muscle and joint pain from gluten without D. So it could be a changed reaction as you are healing.

That said, Arthritis is characterised by pain first thing in the morning which eases off during the day.
