Thanks for posting Deb. Studies on non-celiac gluten sensitivity are starting to be done - this is good news.

From the abstract:
Anti-gliadin antibodies were not induced. There were no significant changes in fecal lactoferrin, levels of celiac antibodies, highly sensitive C-reactive protein, or intestinal permeability.
Since no anti-gliadin antibodies were detected, we can probably safely assume that blood tests were used, not stool tests, and the test for C-reactive protein is a blood test, also, of course. The test for fecal lactoferrin, however, would imply stool testing, since lactoferrin is a protein formed by neutrophils, when an IBD is present. IOW, a negative lactoferrin test implies that no IBD, (or C. diff), is involved. There's no telling, (from the abstract), how intestinal permeability was measured, but since they claim no changes, that rules out any possible effects of the leaky gut syndrome.

So basically, the project proved that non-celiac gluten-sensitivity does exist, and they totally excluded any possibility that an IBD was involved, so this research provides absolutely no clues concerning a possible connection between IBDs and gluten-sensitivity. IOW, this applies to "IBS" patients only, not IBD patients.

Is it just me, or do researchers seem to go out of their way to avoid investigating the possibility of a connection between gluten-sensitivity and IBDs.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Interesting marketing document

http://www.globalbusinessinsights.com/c ... c0191m.pdf

"IBS is expected to be the fastest growing therapuetic area within the GIT market"

and
"future of IBS and IBD, clear market need for effective IBS and IBD Treatments"

well if they diagnosed them correctly the treatments might work!!!!

if this is the type of information going to doctors and specialists any wonder we have issues as patients

It's sad that patent expirations drive the R&D of new drugs to regain the market share.
