From the article:
Also, it is not the presence of interleuken-15 and retinoic acid acid that is the basic problem - the problem is the presence of the allergenic peptides, (gliadins and glutinins), in the first place. The interleukin-15 and retinoic acid are simply whistle-blowers/middlemen.
Incidentally, this appears to be the same research project that Mary Beth posted about:

IMO, that's because vitamin A antagonizes the action of vitamin D. IOW, the reason why researchers found vitamin A to be present in individuals with grain sensitivities, in the first place, is because vitamin A creates the equivalent of a vitamin D deficiency, and that's obviously the reason why giving vitamin A as a treatment is not a good idea, (because vitamin D deficiency is a contributing factor to the development of inflammation).Researchers noted that the results of their study indicate that vitamin A, which can be used to treat inflammation, may have more negative effects than benefits when given to people with celiac disease.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
