Welcome to the group LillyMae from New Hampshire. I know you will be digging in and reading a bunch but to get you started here is a basic summary
MC is an inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) that usually affects the colon but can and often does affect other section of the GI system. Most doctors at this point are just treating MC with meds which are usually steroid based and are quite helpful in settling things down. For many or should I say most MC is a lifelong condition that will most likely require modifications to your diet.
The main symptoms of MC are of course D, cramping, pain (body wide), fatigue, memory or concentration issues, to name a few. It seems that there are some very common dietary issues with MC and most of us have sensitivities to the following:
1.) Gluten which most commonly comes form wheat products and is found in all the good stuff - cookies, cakes, breads, beer, pasta... 95% of us react to gluten although we usually are not 'classically' diagnosed as having celiac disease, but can be just as sensitive to gluten
2.) Soy products: Soy, Soybean oil, tofu, soy lecithin. About 66% of us react to soy
3.) Dairy product Milk, cheese etc.. I am not sure of the numbers but it seems that at least half of us have issues here
4.) Raw fruits and veggies that are uncooked tend to cause a lot of irritation and result in D cramping and bloating. Well cooked fruits and veggies are fine.
So LillyMae are you currently taking any meds for MC and have you been able to address the diet yet? Feel free to ask anything.
Welcome to our internet family. Has your GI specialist prescribed any treatment yet?
Tex (Wayne)
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I'm sure you are doing a lot of reading right now - there is a wealth of knowledge on this site.
You are not alone, and you have found a community that understands what you are going through. We are here to help you get your life back. You will get better!

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Isn't it strange how we all welcome our diagnosis. Just to finally have a name put to it. There is a wealth of information here so browse around and feel free to ask questions. Are you currently taking any meds? Have you done any eliminations to your diet?
