Question

Post by TooManyHats »

Can I take Immodium with Lialda (long-acting Mesalamine)? I've been on this medication for a week and I'm still having D several times a day. I called the doctor who said that it takes about 2 weeks to start working. I simply can't take it anymore. I feel completely drained and need to try something to get it to stop.

Hi Arlene I would imagine you could. Just thinking out loud here, you may what to stagger the doses of the 2 to allow for the proper absorption / distribution of the Lialda.

I took the Lialda 3 hours ago so I should be safe I would think. I only have to take it once a day, so as long as I don't take it too close to the Lialda I should be ok then.

I'm just so tired that I have to do something.

Yeah Arlene, I can relate to that frustration. Its hard early on, once this settles down, and it will you will be feeling a lot better.

Hang in there.

It is rather overwhelming. I hope you get some relief.

yes, you can take Imodium with most of these drugs for stomach.

My Doc told me, Imodium just slows down digestion.
Pepto Bismal pulls the bad stuff out of the gut, but does not necessarily slow down digestion.

Thank you. No wonder Pepto does nothing for me. If I could tolerate the barium (which I already know I can't) I'd love to know what my small bowel transit time is. Seems lightening quick to me. LOL!

No, I'm really trying to avoid steroids if possible. I'm giving Lialda a try and hoping it has no negative effects for me. So far, I'm not getting any relief even with the addition of Immodium.
