I make my rice milk, recipe here: http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8519
I make my almond milk, recipe here: http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12153 , but it takes some time to strain it thoroughly.
I also use Almond Dream and am testing Silk Almond milk. I seem to tolerate Almond Dream better than Silk Almond milk.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Gloria,
A friend of mine read that Silk Almond Milk has very little almond in it compared to other brands. I don't know what her source was, but is was some sort of review of all the almond milks. I used to love it, but now the rich flavor makes me think I'm just drinking industrial gums and stabilizers.

I agree. It's too bad that there isn't a quicker way to strain homemade almond milk. It tastes so pure and superior to the boxed milks. I only use the boxed milks as a backup.Zizzle wrote:the rich flavor makes me think I'm just drinking industrial gums and stabilizers.

At least the first ingredient on the label is All Natural Almondmilk, (Filtered Water and Almonds), so that has to be the primary ingredient.Zizzle wrote:I used to love it, but now the rich flavor makes me think I'm just drinking industrial gums and stabilizers.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Lisa, yes, in addition to avoiding wheat, to really give diet a good chance to improve your symptoms, you should try not to drink or eat any kind of dairy product, and that includes all cow's milk ( even lactose free), yogurt, cheese, (even goat's milk cheese), many Gluten Free baked goods and many, many processed foods. There is a very good chance you are intolerant of the protein in milk, called Casein, as mentioned, not the lactose and not just to gluten. I think 60% of us are intolerant of casein. Another thing to try to avoid for now is soy. If you cut these 3 main things all out, and start to feel better , than you can add them back into your diet one at a time and see if you get sick again. If you do, then you'll know your are intolerant of that item. Think protein.. it is the proteins in food that bother us who have MC. Even things like oats, barley, and dried beans (legumes) all have their own kinds of protein, and are often a problem for many of us. I am so glad to see you asking about things though before you eat them. Here is a link to a list of many foods that have casein in them.
