Pelvic Floor Issues

Post by hoosier1 »

You may all recall that I was planning to start PT and evaluation for pelvic floor issues (for which I was formerly diagnosed). Saw my PT and have learned that I lack the proper coordination when having a bowel movement. This goes hand in hand with the tightness in my pelvic floor and the various inflamed muscle bands (trigger points). It likely explains why I feel the urge to visit the restroom so often, especially in the AM, even when my BM's are fairly formed.

So I am planning to continue to see my PT as much as possible. But I have also dusted off my book "A Headache in the Pelvis" by Dr. Wise. In fact, his latest issue has a chapter about GI problems akin to mine. If anyone has similar problems or pelvic pain, I strongly urge you to read this book.

I am realizing that there is a strong correlation to my pelvic floor issues and my GI problems. I think the hyper activity of my GI only worsens my pelvic floor tension. This is truly a paradox.

So what do I do about it you ask? Well, I get off my lazy butt and start doing the relaxation techniques as well as the external and internal trigger point release methods I was taught when I attended the Stanford Protocol a few years ago. It is like yoga for your outsides and your insides. And it requires a tremendous amount of discipline and quality time each day.

I tried some internal work (not as gross as it sounds... nothing embarrass me anymore) and found many very sore trigger points. Boy do I have a lot of work to do. And I think in the long run, I will be able to do all of this without my PT. Because just like we all know more about MC than our docs, I seem to know more about pelvic floor tension (at least for me) than my PT. And I want to be sure that she applies the Stanford Protocol to me as opposed to some therapies that are counterproductive.

Will keep you all apprised on this next step in my journey with MC, etc.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering when you would get started with the "internal yoga". Keep us posted on your progress - I am hoping you find some relief.

Hi Rich. I am new to the boards. Just wanted to say that I am a fellow Hoosier and also from Fort Wayne born and raised. I had been reading old posts and read where you were from the Fort. Just moved to Florida 2 years ago and don't miss the snow! Another funny coincidence is my husband (a big IU fan) is also named Rich.

Good Luck with your yoga!

Take care,
Sondra
