asacol HD 800 for 6 weeks?
I have read online that a person is only supposed to take Asacol HD 800 for no more than 6 weeks. Is this true?
That's because the FDA-required trial period only covered a period of 6 weeks. Any treatment past that would be an off label use.Dosage and Administration for Asacol HD
For the treatment of moderately active ulcerative colitis, the recommended dose of Asacol HD in adults is two 800 mg tablets to be taken three times daily with or without food, for a total daily dose of 4.8 g, for a duration of 6 weeks. Asacol HD use beyond 6 weeks has not been evaluated.
Drug companies almost always conduct minimum-length trials, because longer trials cost more money, and might turn up negative or adverse results, associated with extended use. IOW, they're not as concerned about the health of patients who might use a drug, as much as they're concerned about their bottom line.

Tex
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
