I know in which part of Amman I want to live

Post by harma »

My first week has already passed by here. Yesterday I restarted my Arabic classes and at the moment I am looking for a place to live. That's stress. Mainly is was stress of again the question where do I want to live. Modern/expensive in one of the best neighborhoods of Amman close to everything (as if I can afford that  ) or very cheap and real traditional (yes I could afford that). Other options are modern luxurious cheap(er) but further away of the everything. This has been on my mind the last week.

And I have good news (well it is good news for me), I know where I want to live. I found something "in between", it is real close to everything, the old center what they call down town, real traditional east, but also close to the west part of town, within walking distance of my school (30 minutes walking I call walking distance). The mixture is not east, not west it's a nice mixture of both. Prices also seems to be okay here. It really has a heart (what I miss in the west modern new part of amman), it almost feels like a village. It's a bit like le Marais in Paris. I am sure NY has a neighborhood like this too. Those parts in town not far from everything, but having a little charm of a village, where people know each other, small stores.

This part is called jabal al weibdeh.

Next step know is finding a place, but it least I know where to look now.

Harma,

I'm sending you a big smile - best of luck finding your apartment. It sounds as though you have already found your "home" in Amman.

And yes, we do have neighborhoods like this in NYC - of course, my little corner of Brooklyn is the best of all! We knew more people (and more variety of people) in just a few weeks here than we had known in all the years where we lived before, just a short distance from here.

Congratulations - it sounds really delightful.

Dear Harma

Glad you have found a 'village' in the city. Better to be a person in a community than a number in an artificial and so-called 'upmarket' area.

best wishes, ant

Harma that's great news. I just want to say thanks for sharing your adventures. As I will be soon following your example, its great to be able to see that with these IBD's we can pursue these changes in our lives while managing the MC monkey.

You certainly have been an inspiration

Take care and best wishes

Harma,
Thank you for posting your thoughts and progress. It is encouraging to hear of your journey through so many choices and changes.
Just trying to learn Arabic sounds like a difficult task. I hope your health will be good and you will find much happiness in the days to come.
Best Wishes from a little town in Montana.
