urgency

can anyone tell me what causes the urgency? i stopped asacol about 1.5 weeks ago....and was just taking immodium until i got my lialda prescription filled (which was done on 4/1) things during the immodium time were good...was just taking 1 a day or every other day....stopped it on friday b/c i wanted to make sure i could see if the lialda was going to work....well, the past 2 days, things have gotten a little worse....very loose stools, a weird tightening sensation under right rib (sometimes on left side too but more so on right) and lighter colored stools and the urgency....i know it takes some time for these meds to work- if they are going to. can a new med make things worse before it gets better? i have been staying away from dairy and i am gluten free. any thoughts. going to see dr. on tues....

Unfortunately, the urgency is due to the short travel time of food thru your colon. It is moving too fast. The key is to slow down your digestion. Have you tried Imodium? If it is real bad with a seriously painful tummy, try a pain pill, like codeine or vicodin, or Tylenol #3 if you have some.
