Has anyone used Histame without having had tests for mast cell involvement? I don't want to add risk and confusion to the mix, but was thinking it might help the whole system calm down, for those occasions where I eat something other than chicken broth. And it would be nice to feel better, while I'm figuring out my next move.
Thanks,
Sara

Sara,
I think the answer to that question is "yes", but I'll leave answering that to someone who knows what she's talking about.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Sara,
I haven't been tested for mast issues, but I have some clues that mast cell issues may be my issue based on what my body has done. I've had an unexplained rash for a very long time. I went to the dermatologist a few years back and she did patch testing. That's when I was diagnosed as being allergic to Balsam of Peru. It's a group of chemicals and spices that includes:
Cinnamon
Chili powder
Cloves
anise
Nutmeg
Curry powder
Hot paprika (cayenne) http://www.allergyuk.org/fs_histamine.aspx
http://www.dermatitisfacts.com/allergic ... f-peru.php
The list of spices and chemicals in Balsam of Peru includes other things as well. That list of spices just so happens to be high in histamines too. The doctor told me at that time I probably had other food allergies and I should see an allergist. I noticed when I was flaring that foods considered high in histamine caused me to have quick reactions. Fish within 30-40 minutes, spinach, mushroom, chicken, eggs, and left-over meals. At that point, I didn't have anything to loose. I ordered it and tried it. It's made all the difference for me. But there were definite clues for me.
I decided to test to make sure the Histame was actually doing something for me. I stopped taking it for a day. The diarrhea came right back.
