Found a new snack

Post by nancyl »

As I wrote last week, I am gluten intolerant. My favorite snack was saltine crackers and peanut butter. It was also helping to add a little weight. I think I am going through gluten withdrawals and looking for snacks, especially something to add weight. I found these great sweet potato chips. The brand name is "Food Should Taste Good", and it's almost like a cracker. I just had some and did what Kelly suggested and bought Justin's Nut butter and spread some on the chips/crackers. These are "everything free". I don't know if you can buy them everywhere. The company is in Needham Heights, MA. They're website is www.foodshoudtastegood.com

Just wanted to share something good.

Ooooh, I've tried them and they are delicious! I also love the tortilla chips that have lime - so good with home made guacamole!

Nancy,

I'm so glad you've found a great snack! Justin's nut butter is delicious, too. I especially like the maple almond butter. I keep a small packet of it in my purse for those times that I'm away from home and getting hungry.

It sounds like a lot of us are turning to nut butters for a quick and nutritious snack.

Nancy

there is nothing better than figuring out a MC safe snack that tastes good

:dancingpenguins:

thanks to Lyn (bifcus16) when i met and stayed with her last November, she put me onto a potato/rice snack that is halfway between a rice cake and potato chip. they are GF/SF/YF they come in individual single serve packs so they are great to tuck into my handbag if i am going to be out for a couple of hours

i will also cook up some chicken in bite size pieces and have with them. This is a great snack that i can eat in the car while driving. On our wineries exploration this was Joe and my lunch while out and about.
Joe also used these for his plane trip home. We also got some small 30ml containers that Joe could put some of the nut butter in to make having snacks a bit easier on the plane.

I have noticed that in the past 12 months the amount of products that suit multiple intolerances is growing, especially the Soy Free factor.

Gabes, speaking of soy-free... I look forward to your product review of the lipsticks! I hope they were terrific. And I agree, more GF/SF/DF/*F options and much more awareness. I know that means a lot of hard work and patience for many, many people (here, in the celiac world, and elsewhere). I feel lucky to benefit.

Nancy, so glad you've found great snacks - and thanks for the suggestions.

Love,
Sara

Food Should Taste Good is my favorite brand of chip now, and hubby likes them too- bonus!! Makes you feel less depressed about being limited to "plain" potato chips and corn chips.

Sara
the GF/SF lipsticks are A W E S O M E !!!

It is amazing how just a small amount of colour can help the complexion!!
i also found a GF/SF lipbalm at some markets.

I am going to order some more colours and get them delivered to Joe before he leaves the states in July. If i store them in the fridge (especially during the aussie summer) then they should last a few years.
and i might try their eyeshadow if it is Soy Free

YAYYYYY! Nancy I'm so glad you found something to satisfy that empty feeling when you first give up gluten. I remember it well. I absolutely love Food Should Taste Good products. I have had these incredible chocolate tortilla chips by that company and I know it may sound weird but they are mildly sweet and salty at the same time with this nice crunch. They are happiness in a bag;) I have to hide them from my hubby when I get them because he can eat an entire large bag in one sitting. The savory flavors are great too.... and everything tastes better with Justin's nut butters:)

Gabes- I've been meaning to ask you for a review on the lipsticks as well. Which brand/company did you order? Were the colors what you expected? I've only ordered one gloss so far and I'm not thrilled with it. The color was darker than I expected and it was a little bit tacky. The good news is my mom loves it so it didn't go to waste and she was excited to get a soy free product.

It is really amazing how pervasive soy is... it is in EVERYTHING!

Kelly,

They have that brand at *your* luckyvitamin site!

I can't believe that instead of eating dinner, I'm pondering lipstick brands and sites ;) I am a hard-core, almost-no-makeup person. EXCEPT when I'm not ;)

xoxox to all you lovely ladies,

To me that is part of the gift that came with MC

we have a whole new appreciation in the delight of finding a MC safe snack, or MC safe lipstick

and that feeling only makes sense to this family!

I have noticed that more and more grocery stores are dedicating an entire section to GF and natural food items. We are becoming mainstream! I can't resist visiting the aisles each time I venture into the stores. I think I get a thrill out of seeing them.

My latest find was creamy almond butter in the half-price Passover section. I found a 16 oz. jar for just $3.79. I've convinced DH that he should eat celery sticks dipped in almond butter as a snack at work (low carbs for his diabetes). He ate them today and said everyone was asking him what he was eating. He liked it! I think I'll go to the store and buy a few more jars for both of us.

YUM, Gloria! That's the kind of snack I would have loved pre-MC - do you recall the brand? I do much better with whole foods than I do at a store like Whole Foods - so many choices and my navigating skills for 'products' are not up to speed. But I am SO willing to learn - and am thrilled there are nut butters in packets I could put in my purse!

I told a friend about my pistachio 'milk' today - she wants to be photographed with a milk mustache ('Got green???') and it will look great with her coloring!

Love,

The brand of almond butter that I purchased on sale was Gefen. The almond butter in packets is Justins. I've gotten the packets at our Safeway store and another chain in town. They are also available at Whole Foods. They come in different flavors, too, one of them being chocolate. I'm hoping I can eat that someday.

Gabes- Thanks for the link. I thought the link posted was for additional lip products, not the one you had purchased through the US. I was so excited to see this affordable, pretty line but I contacted the manufacturer of the Hemp Organics line this morning, Colorganics, and have bad news to report. The natural Vitamin E which is contained in all of their lip line is derived from either wheat germ or soy. She explained that they outsource their Vit. E and depending on the time of year, it can be from either source which is the problem with anything containing Vit. E.

Sara- Thanks for pointing out that the lip products are available through lucky vitamins. That gave me the ability to track down their phone number to contact them so quickly. Have I mentioned I love that site lol?!

Justin's nut butters in the packets have been a lifesaver for me. They are so portable and are portion controlled which I need when it comes to Justin's. I hope I am able to tolerate them at some point with my LEAP diet. In addition to Whole Foods you can also find them in the packet form at REI.

I love the green pistachio milk and the got green theme! I'll have to give it a try soon because pistachios are in my phase one of LEAP along with cashews. I did make cashew milk this weekend and it was great!
