Sorry, been away

Post by ant »

Dear friends

I have 'gone walk abouts again'. I see there are over 1000 posts to read.....Please be assured I will be communicating again.....but not quite yet.......for happy reasons......

A. Business has gone mad with lots of projects (it is like life pre MC - held in check with diet and one entocort a day - thanks to the wisdom of this board.)

B. I am moving apartment in Hong Kong - sorting 30 years of file and bits and pieces is not fun!

C. I am negotiation an apartment (retirement and big enough for guests to stay - PP welcome) in the Thai beach resort of Hua Hin. More on all that later.

Meanwhile, best wishes to all my friends and welcome to all newbees!!, ant

Ant,
I love Thailand! I spent my honeymoon in Bali, Thailand (Bankok and Phuket), Hong Kong and Macau. I hope to get back there someday, maybe with the kids. For now we just enjoy the food and culture brought to us by many Thai and Vietnamese immigrants in the DC area.

Good luck with the move.

Oh, Ant, an invitation to stay at a Thai beach resort when my kids are moving to Thailand couldn't be more timely! Good luck on the negotiations for the apartment, and not just for selfish reasons on my part.

My son will be living in the area of Bangkok called Bangna. When we get some better contact info I will send it to you, in case you ever get to Bangkok.

Zizzle,

I love Bali. That was our favorite vacation spot when our kids were little and we lived in Indonesia. We always stayed at Kuta Beach. We'd go to the beach early in the morning and late in the afternoon, and stay indoors during the hottest part of the day. There was this great restaurant called The Bounty, shaped like the ship Bounty, where they served all-you-can-eat breakfasts with eggs, bacon, sausage, and fruit smoothies. With the kids we stayed at the beach, but before they were born, my husband and I rented a motorcycle and explored the island.

Martha,
That sounds more fun than our vacation. I looked longingly at all those small motorcycles everywhere. We went when my husband was steeped in big law firm life as a young associate and spending more money that we should (the firms have a way of making you think you should live like that...and continue to work like a dog for them to afford it). We stayed at the Meridien resort in Bali, the Peninsula Bankok, and the Banyan Tree resort in Phuket. I felt awful everytime we checked in because I never grew up with anything lavish. We camped everywhere we went!! But it was only 2 weeks after 9/11, so it felt nice to be insulated from it all. When we checked in to the Peninsula Hong Kong, I finally put my foot down after consulting with my calculator. $550?!?! We moved to the Hyatt the next day, which was still $250!!

We could have started a nice nest egg if we hadn't spent so much on our honeymoon! I can't wait to go back and have a normal person's vacation. Would love to check out Chiang Mai and Cambodia or Vietnam too.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I had a terrible GI bug while at the Peninsula Bankok. Nothing like puking in a beautiful hotel bathroom. They did send a nurse to my room who gave me meds. But this is one precursor to MC that I won't forget.

Ant,

Nice to hear from you, with such an exciting update! Glad you've been off doing wonderful things. And good luck with moving.

Z,

You have a big anniversary coming up! Very exciting... (And I know what you mean - very tiny doses of posh do the trick for me, and I appreciate a fancy meal or hotel much more when it's a rare indulgence.)

Ant!

It's great to see a post from you again, and especially with such positive news on all fronts.

I hope that everything goes smoothly in your plans.

The way things are going, you may catch that monkey any day, now.

Hey Ant,

Great to hear form you. Sounds like things are going very well and you have figured out how to manage your MC quite well. Good luck with your move. Sounds like you may get some more PP visitors at some point.

Looking forward to hearing more about your move and retirment plans.

Ant,

Nice to hear from you. It sounds like your MC is pretty well under control with Entocort and diet.

Retirement? I didn't think you were that old. It sounds like a beautiful location. I hope you don't stress too much over the move.

Ant, it is good to hear from you. I have been wondering how you were doing as I too have not posted much lately. I am so glad to hear that your "whole" life is looking good.

I am in one of my flares right now and if I can ever get it under control again, I think the one Entocort a day (with diet of course) is going to be my mainstay. I've attempted too many times to get off without success and each time it takes longer to get back to somewhat normal BM's.

Keep us posted, much love, G
