Salmonella as a trigger for MCC?

I was talking with my friend the other day and she reminded me of an incident last summer when I was also having diarrhea. I discovered then that I had eaten eggs that were in the humongous recall due to salmonella. My friend's comment got me to thinking that maybe, just maybe, salmonella was my trigger. Then I got to thinking, even though I consumed recalled eggs, maybe last summer's weeks of diarrhea were actually MCC's first appearance in my life.

It doesn't matter. Just interesting fodder for thought.

Conference is going well. I'm exhausted but it's from working and straining to listen in a loud environment.

Yes, a bacterial infection can trigger MC. You would have had to actually get sick from a salmonella infection due to the eggs, for that to happen. IOW, just eating eggs that contained salmonella probably wouldn't have triggered the disease, but if the contaminated eggs made you sick, then yes, it might have triggered the disease.

I have looked back and realized I might have had an episode that was MC making itself known at least once or twice before the Big One that I just couldn't recover from. For me, I think a bacteria infection was one of the triggers (and I also had NSAIDs, antibiotics, and several other things in the mix...)

I think you're right that it's worth thinking about the path that led us to MC, even though we cannot completely reconstruct the past. The more clearly we can see the whole picture, the better our thinking will be about next steps, etc. Great news that the conference is going well - have a good weekend,

Tex and Sara,

It did make me sick when I ate the eggs. I had (ahem) diarrhea for a couple of weeks. I was weak and dehydrated. They ran an echocardiogram and blood work to be sure I wasn't in danger. The doctor put me on antibiotics and things cleared up. And the migraines returned.

This is so fascinating! As you said, Sara, looking back suddenly makes things a tad clearer.

Alas, causes are nice, but reality requires dealing with the present.

The conference was a success. I found a restaurant across from the hotel that had a gluten-free menu. Again, it turned out that the chef's wife has Celiac disease (That's 2 restaurants in two weeks where the chef's wife has celiac). So I was able to get GF DF food.

Am at my MIL's tonight. Fly home tomorrow evening.

Excellent point. I hope some of the untangling of the threads that brought us here will help someone in the future (maybe help them help their doctor cut to the chase), but the immediate project is dealing with the current reality.

Speaking of which, that's some excellent karma, having a gluten-free menu pop up across the street from your conference! To have that twice in 2 weeks... we're going to have to start following you around and figure out what you're doing right!

Fantastic, Sharaine! It doesn't get much better than that! I'm glad you've had a successful conference, albeit noisy. One less thing to worry about.
