Droughts cause all sorts of problems, of course, and they dramatically distort normal ecological events. One of the things that I've really noticed this summer is that hummingbird feeders are being emptied at record rates. Of course, not many plants can support a normal bloom in this kind of constant heat and low humidity. Even gardens and yards that are watered, don't produce enough to talk about.
If hummingbirds kept records, they would surely record this year as one of the toughest of the century.
