I picked up this book at the library today, The Gluten Connection, by Shari Lieberman. She's a clinical nutritionist. Has anyone else read it? I have a good friend who has been diagnosed with Sjogren's disease and rosacea. She is plagued with canker sores, fatigue, dry eyes, dry mouth etc. According to this book, she could very well be gluten intolerant w/o any digestive problems at all. Her daughter was diagnosed with lupus and apparently that could possibly be gluten induced. Some of what she suggests would not be good for us with MC, but the book sure is interesting. She also recommends Dr. Fine and Entero Lab as good resources for those who can't find a satisfactory diagnosis from their own doctors.
Still GF, no cheating. I had been using Almond Breeze instead of milk. I had some Lactaid in my tea yesterday and generated enough gas to get out of the state. I'll be a lot more careful from now onl!!!
Question for those on entocort. Does anyone have bladder issues, urgency or a weird full feeling after taking entocort for a while? I don't have a UTI but something sure is different. It doesn't bother me during the night, just during the day after I've had something to drink. I am only taking one pill a day.

I've only read about that book - but haven't read the book. A friend was Dx with an eye problem and rosacea decades ago (her ophthalmologist figured out the connection) but I guess at that time the gluten connection wasn't known... I feel like I'm watching a lot of people with a gluten sword hanging over their heads. I hope your friend will find relief and remission from making this gluten connection, and her daughter as well. Good to know that Dr. Fine and Enterolab are getting a thumbs-up in the wider world, too. (I think I'll reserve that book at our library... a friend is awaiting Enterolab results on 2 of her kids, maybe I'll be a better cheerleader if I look past my own symptoms.)
And also - good for you, GF champ! I'm glad your Lactaid experiment resulted in gas and NOT the dread battery-acid D... We have all learned a hard lesson along the way (and I fear I may have another one coming) - glad this one didn't ruin your whole week.
Thanks for the book reco,
Sara

Sheila,
I never noticed any change in my body while taking Entocort, other than the D stopped. I used to have frequent bladder infections and no longer do, but I'm not sure if that's due to being off Entocort. I recall having them before I started taking Entocort, so there may not be any correlation.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
gluten book
thanks for the review of the gluten book. I am just educating myself now on what gluten free entails and will look for the book at my library. This weekend I went to three grocery stores and was happy to see that there were many gluten free products to pick from. My favorite so far is a barbecue cracker I found. Once my freezer and cupboards have some more products in them I will begin the strict gluten-free diet, but so far I need to figure out some more about this diet.
I am on Entocorte and so far no weird bladder urgency or full feeling as you've described but I've only been on it now for 5 weeks.
