A Whale of a Good (GF) Time

Post by Joefnh »

Well folks as part of my PP ambassador duties I was able to have the unexpected pleasure of a visit from PP member Gabby just a bit ago.

So let me see if I can make up a good PP related storyline for this post.... Ok I think I've got it....

Now it turns out that PP member 'Gabby'

has a background physics and is a lifelong student of the sciences so we decided to by using the strictest rules of he scientific method, look at this whole issue of humans and the issue with gluten sensitivity with an eye towards studying what happens in nature in relation to the consumption of gluten

It seems that in the literature that there are NO reported cases of gluten sensitivity amongst our ocean going mammal friends the whales, and since we had a bit of time on our hands, we decided to do both some observational and practical research into this phenomena. Now it should also be noted that we could also not find in the literature ANY whales having undergone a colonoscopy... Undaunted we decided to press on and continue our research.

We spent the day on a whale wachig ship just off of Cape Cod Massachucettes right near Marthas Vineyard going out with Captain John's Fleet

So after the field research phase of this study was over, we moved onto the practical phase of this research and have begun looking into how a GF seafood diet can be beneficial to those who cannot tolerate gluten and am happy to say that our sea-going friends the whales may very well be on to something here, this non-gluten based food was not only good, but was great to share with a good friend

Anyway folks that's the latest from the PP ambassador files. Thanks to Gabby for sharing such a fun day out on the water and it was great to share a good GF meal

Now my next stop is Phoenix in late September and according to my lab partner, there are other great GF foods try in the American Southwest... Can't wait...

What a great story, Joe (and Gabby)! I like the research you began. I'm sure the whales appreciate that you partook in lobster rather than them (not that we eat whales, but you get my point).

Well, how about that?

It's always a learning opportunity when two scientists get together, I guess!

All of the photos are terrific! Can I assume from the lobster antennae on Gabby's head that she may be a bit of a clown? Or maybe just a free spirit getting into the moment? Tee Hee. And hey, I am also assuming that that is clarified butter on the plates. Right? I know Joe has a dairy sensitivity. Do you also, Gabby? Looks like a safe and delectable PP meal to me. Wish I could have joined you.......seriously.

And your literature search turned up not a single case of a whale colonoscopy? Whatever do you think would be used for a whale colonoscope? (I'm afraid to guess).

Thanks so much for keeping us posted on your continuing PP ambassador adventures. Will look forward to hearing about your upcoming AZ trip.

Love,

Polly

I am glad to see you are back to your job as ambassador. Great photo of you and Gabby and the lobsters look delishious. Believe it or not, I have not had a bite of lobster this summer. I am going to have to rectify that.

You are looking very healthy!!

Great photos, great photo essay - great job, O Ambassador, and nice to 'meet' Gabby by photos, too...

Nancy, I haven't had a bit of lobster this summer, either. I'm thinking it's high time, for both of us!

Joe, thanks for sharing this interpersonal, marine adventure, and for reminding us of the many ways we're all connected.

Love,
Sara

LOL Gabby - I think we could all donate several gastroenterologists for the sake of research.

Looks like you guys had a great time!!

Polly, I'm not sure what we learned 'scientifically' but the lobster and of course the butter were great ! We did have a great visit and enjoyed all of the activities.

Gabby, I'll hold off of the scorpion desert  tempting as it is... As far as a whale colonoscopy, I think Mary Beth has a good idea, from the sounds of it there are quite a number of GI docs that might be able to help out... Their not doing their human patients much good.... Then again do we want to hurt our cetacean friends that way?

Maggie thanks for the compliments and as to your question "is there anything there" ... I really think so...More to follow

Next stop Phoenix for 2 weeks...

More pictures to follow...

My dear friend Tex.. The question is professional at what ??? LOL

We will try to be as scientific and professional as possible...

Along those lines Tex can we expand my photography section? I plan on getting a lot of the Sonoran desert in pictures during the trip in a few weeks
