Tinnitus
Does anyone here have it? I notice that mine gets SO much worse when I am either having bad C or D.
Tinnitus has been discussed here many times. Here are a couple of examples:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Whoever told you to stop taking it because of black stools, didn't know anything about Pepto-Bismol, (or bismuth subsalicylate). It always turns stools black. It also turns the tongue black. That's just the way it is.Lesley wrote:I took Pepto for a while, but was told to stop because of black stools.
My main hearing loss is also in my left ear.

He didn't tell me to take it. I bought the cheapest anti diarrhea l at the drug store. My tongue didn't go black though that might have been fun!
I had a horrible allergic reaction to Imodium capsules. Swelled up worse than I am now from the prednisone.
I SO hope my tinnitus and hearing loss improve from the gluten free diet. Would be lovely.

I have had tinnitus for many years now plus some hearing loss from taking Zithromax and another drug which I can't think of the name right now, due to Lyme disease. It never went away, even though it has been many years.
It recently got worse when I started taking Pepto Bismol, so I had to quit taking that. I'm hoping it will get better since I stopped taking the Pepto, or at least subside somewhat. I know I will always be plagued with it, and I think I just have to live with it.
I hope yours goes away.

Garina,
Was that other drug the antibiotic Doxycycline? Doxycycline is frequently prescribed to treat Lyme disease. Doxycycline can cause not only tinnitus, but significant, (occasionally major), hearing loss. Other drugs that can cause tinnitus include the antibiotic Clarithromycin, the antibiotic Metronidazole, (Flagyl), and the PPI Lansoprazole. Doctors usually forget to mention the hearing risks when prescribing those drugs.

Yes, Tex, actually I took at different times all three of those - Doxy, Flagyl, and Clarithromycin, not for too long, but I had a bad case of Lyme, so many things were tried. I wish I had known, but, anyway, the past is the past. I am basically a well person, so I'm happy about that. My husband and I both tend to turn on the TV a little louder as the years go by. So far, outside of MC plus a few other ailments, I'm doing well.
Going GF has already done wonders for me - no more acid reflux, and that was a big one for me. I had taken Nexium for a long time, but never will again. I think I will never need it again. Gut is healing ... hallelujah!

Lesley,
I know everyone is different and what works for one doesn't work for another, but, since I've been GF, hard that it is (and I make tons of mistakes), even with that, I still struggle with MC, but it does seem to be a little better. One other thing I have been using is Culturelle along with Align daily. I use Align at AM, one Culturelle at lunch, and another Culturelle at dinner. I really don't know if it works, and maybe it's just that GF is helping, I really don't know.
I know I have read here that others are using S. Boulardii, so it really is a trial and error.
This MC site is priceless to me. The things I've learned here regarding this disease were never told to me by any doctor.

Hi Garina,
I'm glad your GERD is better. That's always a fun one ... not!
As the resident expert on hearing loss here on the site (I lost my hearing at age 14, have a cochlear implant, and have been a trainer on hearing loss, etc. for 30 years) .. I need to tell you that aspirin also makes tinnitus worse. Of course, we're not supposed to take aspirin since we have MC, but just in case you are taking it, I offer this word of caution.
Also, if you are in loud environments, it can aggravate your tinnitus. Often rest is the only way to calm it down (I speak from years of experience with tinnitus.)
I hope your ears stop ringing soon.
Best,
Sharaine
