Hello All!
I took entocort for approximately 6 months - 3/day for 1 month, 2/day for 1 month, 1/day for 3 months and one every other day for a month. I took my last pill about a month ago and was doing OK until I got a middle ear/sinus infection and had to take an antibiotic.
I am taking a Z pack and took the first dose midday on Saturday. By Sunday night, the dreaded D was back. I have had 3 bouts of D since which isn't too bad but I am afraid the D may not go away after I finish the antibiotic.
I am wondering if it makes sense to take a few entocort pills to get through this and then stop again.
Just FYI, I cut gluten out of my diet in April and artificial sweeteners in August. I have not identified any other intolerances or had enterolab testing but I suspect dairy is an issue.
I don't like the idea of taking entocort again because I have all of the typical steroid side effects even with the enteric coating. Is it logical to assume that entocort isn't safe for me to take long term since I experience these side effects?
All opinions are appreciated.
Thanks!

Well, whether or not it's safe for you to take Entocort depends on the exact nature of the side effects, and their intensity. It does sound as though you're rather sensitive to it, though, which suggests that if you decide to try taking it again, you might be able to get by with a reduced dose. For most people here, just taking it for a few days never seems to work - they wind up having to take it for a relatively long period of time. One never knows, though - we're all different.
If you suspect that you're sensitive to dairy, you probably are - you might try cutting it out, to see if that helps.
Be sure you're getting enough vitamin D - vitamin D helps to prevent infections of all types, especially colds, flu, etc. Sinus infections seem to be rather commonly associated with MC, and most people seem to have fewer sinus issues, once they get their vitamin D levels up where they should be.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I hope that you are taking probiotics along with the antibiotics, it's very important that you keep the good bacteria. You can't take them at the same time, you have to take the probiotics a few hours before or after you take the "anti". You might also consider taking L-Glutamine at least while you are recovering from this infection. I have only had to take antibiotics once since going gluten free in '09 and had no problems.
Resolved MC symptoms successfully w/L-Glutamine, Probiotics and Vitamins, GF since 8/'09. DX w/MC 10/'09.
