Hi all,
I just posted an update on my sister in the "Just Do It" thread in the Success Stories section. You may want to take the time to read it, as it is quite unusual.
Love,
Kari

Belle,
Enterolab has a test specifically for yeast. Yeast is the only food that produces IgA antibodies in the stool, that I am aware of, that can usually be added back into the diet after the intestines have had time to heal. So far, I believe that everyone who has tested positive to yeast, has been able to tolerate it, after they are in remission, and after they've healed for a while.

This pattern suggests that the only time we will test positive to the yeast test at EnteroLab, is when we have a yeast overgrowth, (Candida albicans). The EnteroLab test is specific for Sacharromyces cerevisiae, but my opinion is that the immune system apparently must confuse this species with Candida albicans, (based on the all the accumulated experiences of the members of this board). A yeast overgrowth is sometimes associated with the syndrome of MC, (because Candida can cause the leaky gut syndrome), and virtually always, once we get our diet under control, and achieve remission, the yeast overgrowth will be under control, also.
If products that contain yeast make you sick, then you know you are sensitive to it. If you're already sick to begin with, then you won't have a way to tell the difference, other than the EnteroLab test, so obviously, the prudent thing to do, is to avoid it, at least until you're able to tell the difference.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
