Wanna See A White Blood Cell Chasing A Bacterium?

Post by tex »

Hi All,

I'm sure that Polly has seen this before, but most of us haven't. Here's a short video of a white blood cell, (a neutrophil), chasing down and catching a bacterium. The immune system has some awesome components. Normally, about half of the leukocytes in the blood are neutrophils, but the number increases, if an acute infection is present.

Just amazing, isn't it?

Natural killer cells intrigue me...there is another link to that as well.

Thanks Tex.

Joanna,

The article at the link you posted is a genuine epiphany-generator. When I tried to bookmark the site, I found that I already had both it, and the article that it was based on, bookmarked, but obviously, I must have either failed to read them the first time around, or I had completely forgotten what they said. That blog illustrates why antibodies are unnecessary for the development of an autoimmune reaction, so it's no wonder that some reactions are undetected by lab results.

You must have posted that previously. Thanks for the refresher course.

Love,
Tex
