I believe I could "get away with" ghee at this time, but am not pushing my luck. I am able to buy several different brands of ghee (Indian markets not terribly far, plus health/gourmet stores...) - I know that Nancy had a good experience recently with ghee, and I hope she weighs in.
What would you like to use it for? My go-to oils are coconut, olive, avocado, and duck fat (at the moment). I think ghee would work in the duck fat, coconut arena...
We have a ceramic tagine that we love, and we used ghee it in frequently, pre-MC. I have deeply de-gheed the base unit, but the cone-shaped top still smells faintly of ghee despite my decontamination attempts. I have been using the top, both on the based it came with and on other cookware that it fits, and it's been OK, though I would guess I am getting some ghee in my food when prepared that way. I am not ready to try it as an intentional ingredient yet.

I just finished a jar of Purity Farms Ghee. I had it for many months, and finally decided to polish it off on a batch of GF chocolate chip cookies. It never bothered me, but I never thought it was very tasty (maybe if I added salt? hmmm), so I rarely used it like butter for spreading on bread. I only used it for cooking. It's also very hard coming out of the fridge, so not very spreadable. I much prefer Earth's Balance SF butter alternative. I'll buy it again for recipes that require the true consistency of butter, but I use much more olive oil and Earth's Best for flavoring veggies and breads. I also sauté with more bacon fat than I should, but it's so much tastier than coconut oil or ghee!
Since I can't use poultry fat I am, again, limited. I cooked some tilapia in a TEENY bit of ghee tonight. 1/2 a teaspoon. So far, so good. I am not getting any more gurgles and stuff than I was before because of the enormous amount of laxative type meds I am taking and the fact that I am 5 days into a C attack. If it's an attack and not a state of being for me.
I have no idea whether this is the way it's going to be (not great) or I am still in a flare characterized by C.

I wanted it for christmas eve, we usually have lobster and I neeeed some sort of butter with it. I have used earth balance before and I really liked it but, I now have a senstivity to saff. and sunflower oils. Both are in earth balance I believe. My brother come in CT is going to stop by whole foods today to pick me up some of the purity farms ghee. I hope it settles well! :/
Yes, I did make my own ghee (clarified butter) after getting instructions from Joe. I think Dee also has instructions in her kitchen.
I had bought some several months ago and it was so expensive. This time I made it myself at the cost of a pound of butter. It was so easy and tastes good. My husband also likes it. I use it in mashed potatoes, on toast, also when a recipe calls for butter and olive oil for sauteeing I use that. I like Earth Balance, but it has a lot of water in it and doesn't have the same effect as the ghee is some foods or food prep. I did not have any problems at all with it.
I see you are also from MA so you know how good it is when eating lobster. That nice rich flavor.
