coffee

Post by harma »

since I know I have MC I drink decaf coffee, not even especially for the MC, when I switched to decaf I discovered I have quite a strong reaction on caffein in general.

But there is something strange. When I make my coffee at home (I finally have an espresso maker, and found my favorite decaf coffee on a Christmas bazaar) never no problems. On the other hand anytime when I drink coffee outside, doesn't matter if it is Starbucks or any other cafe , I got a physical reaction. Feeling chased, difficulties to sleep and sometimes a bowel reaction.

So I am really getting suspicious, any restaurant or cafe when they tell they serve decaf I think they just give me normal espresso

I think I will stick to my homemade decaf ricemilk cappuccino.

By the way, I love that I finally can start my day again with my coffee

That's really interesting and strange.

I had to quit coffee when I realized it was stopping Entocort from working. Three pills always stopped the D but starting this past August it didn't. Once I bit the bullet and stopped the coffee, so did the diarrhea. I had a tough time with caffeine withdrawal for a couple of weeks. Now I drink a cup of herbal tea just to say I had a warm drink in the AM. LOL.

I do miss the coffee a bit but I think the caffeine bothers me as much as the coffee.

What brand coffee are you drinking?

I can do regular coffee, but only in the morning and only 1 cup. I haven't noticed a difference in getting coffee other places, but I too would be suspicious that I was getting regular instead of decaf if I was having that kind of a reaction! The only sad thing for me is that, now that soy is gone, Starbucks is no longer in my world.

I drink segafredo decaf ground coffee. The benefit of this coffee is (for me) that it tastes good with rice milk (because if you start experimenting with a milk replacer it is not only the replacer but also the taste of the coffee)

Cynthia, I hate Starbuck's coffee. It always tastes burned to me. My son swears by their instant coffee. He says it's the best! It had better be. It is very expensive.
I drink my coffee with coconut milk.

Leslie, what kind of coconut milk to do use? I tried Silk brand since that's my favorite for soy & almond but the coconut I couldn't drink. I'm looking for alternatives for my coffee creamer too. So far chocolate Silk soy or almond is the best.

Harma,

Well I hate to say this but most restaurants that serve coffee it is all regular or half decaf and half regular! What you have to tell them is that you have an allergy to caffeine and then they will give you decaf. My sister-in-law is allergic to caffeine. she breaks out in hives. She as had very bad reactions a couple of times and they always just told her that they thought it was decaf! Now she brings her own tea or decaf coffee where ever she goes. I started doing that also but they have the nerve to charge me for a cup of hot water. I guess being safe comes with a price.

Deb,
I get either TJs own brand, or So Delicious at WF. It's quite good.

Robin,
A restaurant who did that OR charged me for hot water would not get my business!

Bottled water - everybody does it ad more than they should. But a glass of hot tap water? That's ridiculous.

I got some of those instant coffee single packets for my daughter. Maybe that would be easier than trying to determine if what they're giving you is REALLY decaf...

Lesley, Starbucks was always convenient when I was traveling and needed something to keep me awake. I was really hooked on white mochas! I do have a cappuccino machine at home, so I'm thinking of asking my husband to experiment with the coconut milk and see what he can create.

Deb, I have the opposite problem--I can do the coconut, but not the soy! I can handle a little Coffee Mate creamer, but a soy latte does me in.

I can also do coconut but not soy. I have never liked soy, and maybe that was my body telling me something.

I think I will try the Starbuck's instant, and see if it is as good as Adam says it is. I have always found that traveling with some packets of instant coffee makes it easy and way cheaper to get coffee anywhere because hot water (maybe except NY) is easy to get.
I NEVER paid the prices for the fancy coffees. I always found them to be exorbitant.
