flare/lialda/ACNE!!!

Post by jmayk8 »

So I am staring to have a flare..Not sure what it is from, maybe all of the different foods I had on xmas?
I usually can start taking my lialda and feel better within a day or two. However, It gives me horrendous acne. Like so bad that I am still trying to get rid of all of it on my back from my last time taking it. It's seriously terrible. Is there anything else I can take that might help that won't give me this awful side effect???

Hi Jenny,

Unfortunately, all of the 5-ASA medications show acne as a labeled side effect for up to 2% of patients who use them, including the generic, mesalamine. That leaves prednisone, Entocort, and immune system suppressants, such as Imuran, or one of the anti-TNF drugs, as the primary remaining medical treatment options. Of course, all of those drugs have their own set of side effect risks, also.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
