When is joint pain no longer a MC condition?
What I mean is, my joint pain comes and goes and I am not sure it is due to MC or not. I am watching what I eat, yet I get joint pain that waxes and wanes from day to day, hour to hour. Could some kind of vitamin deficiency be the cause? I am way low on B1 and B2 but in the normal range for others. Has anyone here had a hard time assessing where your aches and pains come from and what to do? P.S. I also find I am more "sore" when I wake up in the morning.

Unless I'm mistaken, unfortunately, any joint damage that has occurred while you were in an inflammatory stage, isn't going to go away by being GF. It also isn't likely to get worse once the irritant is removed and your immune system settles down. At least that has been the case for me. I don't know how old you are and how long your autoimmune system was over-reacting and that makes a difference too.
Both of my wrists are damaged from overuse and "arthritis". I put that in quotes because I never tested positive for arthritis. I have been getting prolotherapy for this for almost 3 years and it's been a lifesaver.

I would expect you should feel much better soon once you get your dietary issues resolved, Mandy. My body was damaged by a lifetime of being a daredevil, food reactions and also by having lead poisoning. I've never been told that I had a hormonal imbalance or gallbladder problems, in fact I was the picture of health, despite that I was in pain all the time. Now, other than the joints that I know are damaged, I have little pain anywhere after being GF for 2.5 yrs.

I will be 55 in a month, and I dealt with joint pain from my 30's on until I got my food issues under control. Joint pain can come from the leaky gut--I remember reading a post from Tex about how what escapes from the gut goes to the joints. That's not exactly right, but I hope he will be along soon to put it correctly. Now I only deal with pain around my monthly cycle (water retention), or if I eat too many nightshades (tomato, potato, etc.) or eat them too close together.

I agree with Connie that it can take a while for all our symptoms to resolve, and sometimes, some of the damage can be permanent, but we can prevent it from progressing. As Marliss mentioned, with symptoms such as joint aches, the leaky gut syndrome is typically also involved, and it can take a long time to correct a leaky gut. The leaky gut syndrome, (LGS), can be exacerbated by sugar, alcohol, and even carbs in the diet, especially in relatively large amounts. And the worst problem is that as the gut becomes "leakier", it takes less and less of the agents that cause a leaky gut, to result in an equivalent, (or worse), stage of leakage. It causes undigested peptides, (such as gliadins and glutenins from gluten, casein, etc.), to leak through the tight junctions that should normally be closed, into the bloodstream, where they are deposited in joints, muscle tissue, and even the brain, (causing brain fog).
Also, a candida overgrowth will tend to perpetuate LGS, because the roots can penetrate the tight junctions, forcing them to remain open, thus prolonging the leakage of peptides into the bloodstream. Yeast overgrowth can effectively turn LGS into a chronic syndrome. Various condition such as this can cause symptoms, (especially joint inflammation/pain), to wax and wane. In such a situation, it's usually more practical to try to monitor progress on a weekly or monthly basis, rather than on an hourly or daily basis, because short-term symptom excursions don't always correlate directly with allergens/inputs.

Thanks, Tex! Yes, it could be leaky gut. I don't drink alcohol so I know that is not the problem, but I have been eating Hershey Kisses to see if I was intolerant to them. I didn't seem to be, because I had no reaction except for YUM! lol I will go off the kisses to see if I get better. A question though...if I didn't react to the kisses, ie, chocolate and the dairy that is in them, does that mean I might be able to eat them at a later date, if my leaky gut is resolved? Also, does any kind of deficiency in vitamins increase the likelihood of aggravating a leaky gut?

There is a good chance that you might be able to safely eat one or both of those ingredients later, yes. There may be some vitamins that might be associated with the leaky gut syndrome, (or it's resolution), but I doubt that enough research has been done to pinpoint them, so your guess is as good as mine, as to which ones they might be. In my own case, I'm pretty certain that sugar was the cause of my LGS, because I was a sugar hog until my symptoms began. I found it necessary to severely limit sugar in my diet, during my healing phase. Now, I can tolerate it, of course.

I have had joint pain for a long time, and took Celebrex for diagnosed arthritis, which of course, b/c it's an NSAID, I have now had to stop. Months later, and 7months GF/DF, I have less joint pain without Celebrex. However, I still have flares of arthritis related to weather, for example, anytime there is precipitation coming. I have particular issues with my right hand and right knee.

Tex, every time you talk sugar I KNOW I must figure out a way of decreasing intake if not quitting it altogether.
Because of GERD I suck candy constantly, so I am exacerbating the candida big time. I wish I could stop it, but the pain gets so bad it drives me nuts, even waking me and forcing me to suck on some during the night.
I want to try gum again and see if it helps. I have C most of the time, so I am not nearly as worried about the D.
I have to try to get off sugar somehow.
