Good websites for gluten/ casein-free products?

Post by maestraz »

Hi Everyone, and Happy New Year to All.
I was looking around online today at websites offering GF products. I was, in particular, looking for some Schar products that I haven't found locally. I did not end up ordering because of unavailability of a couple specific products, but also because of exorbitant shipping costs.

So, any advice on sites that you like that offer Schar and don't rob you for shipping?

Hi Suze,

I didn't check any product prices, but you can get free shipping at Amazon.

Hi Tex,
Amazon was actually the first place I looked, but for some bizarre reason had different ones of the products coming from a variety of different GF sources, so things were going to be shipping separately. Then I looked at a different website that I thought was going to work, until they told me shipping was going to be $18, which for the number of items I wanted to try was ridiculous.

Hi, Suze, I've found lots of GF products at both iherb and vitacost, very reasonably priced. I think iherb has free shipping with a $20 order as long as it doesn't weigh over 10#. vitacost has free shipping with a $49 order. I think they had a couple of Schar products. I first learned about that brand in the new Kafka book, Intolerant Gourmet,so think I should try it. She gave it the highest rating.

Good luck, Beverly

Morning Suze,

Have you tried glutenfreemall.com They carry a wide variety of products from many manufacturers and pretty sure they have Scharr.

Love, Maggie

Thanks for the tips. I did end up ordering from gluten freely, which I believe is associated with General Mills. And I found some products at a local supermarket where I haven't shopped before.

Yes, I have liked everything I've tried by Schar so far. Everyone has their personal preference, but I like their classic breads better than Udi's, which seems to be the more available brand around here.

Now that is a first. Schar's has pretty decent bread but the shelf life is forever which means more preservatives. That's why I go with Udi's. Just shows how different we all are.

Hi Maggie,
Yes we are all different. I don't eat a lot of GF products on a regular basis, but when I do, Schars seems to be my favorite. Also like a GF pasta called Sam Mills, which is corn based.

I notice you are from SE PA-- so am I, Delaware Co., originally.

Had one of Schar's gluten and lactose free Panettone over christmas. Gosh it was good - pity my local shop has sold out of the lactose free ones.
