GI appt.
So I had my appt with my GI today to just followup on a few things..
I showed him my MRT results by the way (drum roll please...) I had my first norman this morning! I had to cut the fruits out bc that was causing my problem.
Anyways...He has never heard of MRT but told me to obviously keep following the diet. He also mentioned that maybe starting up entocort again to help with the inflammation for the time being.
I then asked him about Mast Cells and he knew all about it! I almost fell off my chair! He said that one of the Dr's in the practice has it and she gets along pretty well with just taking zyrtecs. He also mentioned Gastrocrom has been rx to some of his pts with super high histamine levels so we did some blood work to ck mine. He also did some blood work to ck my liver functions and a few other things and he said he would call me on Friday to discuss. I am very happy how this appt went and obviously happy that norman came to visit today!
I will let you all know about my results when i get them!

Congrats on Norman!! And good news that your doc knew about mast cells and histamine.
I'm a bit confused though and don't understand your doctor's logic. . . why start on entocort now when the diet is starting to work? Can't you just give it some time to finish the LEAP program and see if it does the trick. Otherwise how will you know what is working, diet or drug??? The whole point of LEAP/MRT is to reduce inflammation. I honestly don't see the need for an anti-inflammatory med if diet is working. To me, entocort is used when diet doesn't work.

I agree mary beth.
I am not going to start on any drug bc there would be no way to tell if the diet is working or not. He did seem to understand that diet was a huge part of MC, so i guess i am just glad he didnt shut me down on anything i had to say or look at me like i had 10 heads. At one point he actually smiled and said he was so impressed about on how much i knew!
Hey Tex,
I think it's about 9 years of schooling for become a GI, i bet if we all pool our money together we can put you thru medical school ;)

I appreciate the thought, but I'm gettin' too old to start med school now. By the time I finished, I probably wouldn't be able to remember why I had started.Jenny wrote:Hey Tex,

By the way, FWIW, I wondered the same thing about the Entocort prescription. I agree with you and Mary Beth, that you might as well see how well the diet goes, at this point, since you seem to be making good progress, now.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Are you taking an antibiotic? Or a bile acid sequestrant, (such as cholestyramine)? Or a beta-carotene supplement? Curcumin or Turmeric? Either one could do that.Jenny wrote:I had another norman this morning but, my stools look pretty light colored and when I wipe the tissue is a bright yellow. Any thoughts on what that may mean?

Jenny, add my congratulations to the group celebration here.
So glad it went that way for you. I also thought it was an odd time to add Entocort. I think your plan makes a lot more sense. It would be interesting to talk to the Dr. with mast cell problems. If you do you MUST post that for us.
take care,
Carol
