Post by beckyp »

Finally my symptoms have gone  I have been gluten free for the last few weeks and it seems to be working. I have stopped the steroids and mezavant without any problems at all. It took a while for all the information you have provided to sink in, but now it has I feel like I can have my life back. thank you :)

Hi Becky,

That's definitely good news. Good for you, for taking charge of your health, and doing what needed to be done. I hope that you will be rewarded by remission from symptoms for the rest of your life.

If you should suffer a relapse, please don't despair, because it may be because you are sensitive to some additional food. Many of us find that if we only eliminate gluten, after the gluten antibodies fade away, our immune system will then focus on the next food-sensitivity, which for most of us is dairy products. If you are already avoiding dairy, and have a relapse, they you may be sensitive to soy, or eggs, or something else, but hopefully, you won't have to avoid any more foods than you are avoiding now, in order to remain in remission.

Thanks for the update, and I hope that you are able to completely get your life back.

Thank you

When your gastoenterologist admits that he doesn't know much about LC you know you're on your own... well I would be without this forum anyway.

Becky,

It's even tougher when our gastroenterologists won't admit that they aren't familiar with the disease, and they pretend that they know what they're doing, because they mislead a lot of patients that way. Really, almost all of us are on our own, but our GI docs try to keep that a secret, unfortunately.
