Hello everyone
Thanks so much to everyone who answered my post - I feel as if I've discovered a whole new family of like minded people who know exactly what I'm talking about!
I must say all this talk about food allergies is a complete revelation to me and I'm still trying (but beginning to grasp it vaguely) to get my head around it all. I have started on a GF/DF diet - or at least as far as I understand it and am feeling really cheered to at last be started on a course of action which seems to work for so many others and which makes a whole lot more sense then the very vague description and course of action given to me by my gastroenterologist.
So far the dreaded D is still with me but I presume its early days as yet, so am prepared to soldier on and hope that things WILL improve. Will keep you posted and thanks for all the encouragement.
Althea
Thanks for the Advice

Hi Althea,
Yes, patience and perseverance are vital for controlling this disease. Most of us have damage that has been accumulating for years, and that level of damage does not heal overnight, despite the fact that many gastroenterologists think that healing should occur in a matter of weeks. It actually takes months, and in the most severe cases, it takes years.
Good luck with your treatment program, and please don't hesitate to ask questions whenever you aren't sure about the way that things are going. It's much better to ask, than to suffer in silence.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
