What really causes heart disease

Post by Deb »

http://www.sott.net/articles/show/24251 ... rt-Disease
I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labelled "opinion makers." Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol.

The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course we insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease. Deviations from these recommendations were considered heresy and could quite possibly result in malpractice.

It Is Not Working!

These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.

At least one of them has finally seen the light.

Thanks for posting that link.

Little tendril of smoke in the forest. Hopefully there will be a bit of a breeze and it will flame. Thanks for posting that Deb.

Yes, yes, yes............

I am just an unqualified human, motivated by self-preservation (not ego nor money) and hopefully still with a vaguely functioning brain. But, from what I read, it is inflammation rather than cholesterol that is the villain. And geeze does MC and other autoimmune diseases have a field day with inflammation?? !

Thanks Deb, for sending me off on a couple of hours of a perfect example of how confusing and complex things can get here on the Internet.

I read his article, which I personally believe from recent research on DH's high cholesterol and how dangerous statins are, is quite accurate and true. Was all set to email it to my DH's immediate family and then made the mistake of reading the comments to the article and following the links posted in the comments about Dr. Lundell. A truly interesting debate that eventually took me to the Marshall Protocol site where they believe Vit. D is the enemy. Not sure if it was a wasted few hours, but it was entertaining to see the arguments and tit-for-tats posted by people who clearly have an agenda.

Dr. Lundell, IMO, was a sacrificial lamb, although already retired, he had the nerve to publish his opinions about cholesterol lowering drugs. Big mistake, Dwight, those big pharma people will stop at nothing that might affect their bottom line.

The more research I do, the more I am convinced that ultimately it is the overgrowth of bad bacteria in our digestive system, caused by eating proteins we can't digest and which ultimately adhere to our intestines and then ferment and cause little holes to form that allow the bad bacteria to hide from the good bacteria, (leaky gut), that is what is the cause of almost all illnesses.

Two recent studies on Crohns have shown 100% of them had MAP. We here all know just how "valuable" "studies" can and cannot be, especially when connected to some new drug that will cost a fortune, but it's hard to ignore the antibiotic connection to MC. Many of us have that connection. We had all different kinds of weird infections, UTI's, skin disorders, etc. that we took stuff for. Well, we wouldn't have taken the antibiotics if we didn't have a condition that was caused by a bad bacteria that thrived and wasn't stopped by our good bacteria in the first place.

Still learning, still researching, sorry I've been AWOL so much, am going through some personal hell right now. I've missed you guys and finally had a day to just focus on me. Plan to forward the link to DH's family, but they all have ADHD, so who knows if they can get through it.

Stanz what do you mean by MAP?

As I have Crohns this one caught my attention.

Joe, I mean Mycobacterium Avium subspecies Paratuberculosis. We are all exposed to this via milk and beef, this is a bacteria that isn't killed even when processed or cooked. I've written here many times about my Grandfather and his tragic MISdiagnosis with TB. The FDA still allows cattle with this disease to be sold for food. Neither pasteurization or cooking the meat will kill this bacteria, so we-with compromised bowels-are prime targets.

I have links to all the research on this, including new research on the 100% tests, and am in mid dinner prep, but you can start with Dr. Naser, University of Central Florida as a Google search. I will try to find my sticky note with the links to recent stuff and send them to you.

Much has been learned since those discussions here. There is now a blood test for MAP, and there is now an antibiotic being tested as a cure for it. Be sure to click on the two "this" links in the first article.

This article relates to the study that led to the test that found TWO THIRDS of Crohns patients they tested were positive for MAP. This study dates back 9 years. The blood test was patented in 2006, the drug company that bought that patent from Univ. of Central Florida began a 2 year study with patients in 9/2011. Other drug companies are in hot pursuit of the $ to be made on a cure, thus the other 2 studies I found, which look professional but then we just never know, do we? It's all about $.

Well, I can't get the second link to work here, but if you paste it into a new window it will take you there.

If you watched Sanjay Gupta's report on 60 minutes last Sunday, you'd know that nearly all our modern ills, including cancer and heart disease, are caused by SUGAR! Seriously, you should go to CBS or Youtube to watch it. Pretty startling evidence.

How does eating a simple sweet roll create a cascade of inflammation to make you sick?

Imagine spilling syrup on your keyboard and you have a visual of what occurs inside the cell. When we consume simple carbohydrates such as sugar, blood sugar rises rapidly. In response, your pancreas secretes insulin whose primary purpose is to drive sugar into each cell where it is stored for energy. If the cell is full and does not need glucose, it is rejected to avoid extra sugar gumming up the works.

When your full cells reject the extra glucose, blood sugar rises producing more insulin and the glucose converts to stored fat.

What does all this have to do with inflammation? Blood sugar is controlled in a very narrow range. Extra sugar molecules attach to a variety of proteins that in turn injure the blood vessel wall. This repeated injury to the blood vessel wall sets off inflammation. When you spike your blood sugar level several times a day, every day, it is exactly like taking sandpaper to the inside of your delicate blood vessels.

While you may not be able to see it, rest assured it is there. I saw it in over 5,000 surgical patients spanning 25 years who all shared one common denominator -- inflammation in their arteries.

Let's get back to the sweet roll. That innocent looking goody not only contains sugars, it is baked in one of many omega-6 oils such as soybean. Chips and fries are soaked in soybean oil; processed foods are manufactured with omega-6 oils for longer shelf life. While omega-6's are essential -they are part of every cell membrane controlling what goes in and out of the cell -- they must be in the correct balance with omega-3's.
That's very much what Dr. Lundell said as well, Zizzle. I haven't seen the 60 Minutes show, but will look for it.

That sounds rather profound, but what are these proteins, and how do they injure the blood vessel wall? Why do they injure the blood vessel wall? Is it actually because of the sugar, or would they injure the blood vessel wall without the sugar? Is this science or speculation?

I'm not sure if they work similarly to the proteins in gluten, Tex. They do know that the "adhesive" quality of gluten is what makes it particularly damaging to the intestines. Wouldn't be a huge stretch to think that sugar could do the same in blood vessels if you flood them with too much, but then I'm not a doctor, so.......just guessing here.

But sugar is not a protein, therefore it shouldn't provoke an immune system response. So how is the damage generated? It has to be generated by proteins. Right?

That's why I'm suspicious of the "proteins" that supposedly cause that damage. I have a hunch that the proteins are the problem, not the sugar, and I suspect that the proteins may be lectins.

I am woefully uninformed as to what lectins are/do.
Extra sugar molecules attach to a variety of proteins that in turn injure the blood vessel wall.

Does this make any sense to you, that just attaching to a variety of proteins could explain how it would damage the wall of the blood vessel? Biology was not my strong subject, something I wish now I had more of a background with. Will have to ask my daughter.
