Blood work questions...

Post by CathyMaine »

Hi All,
I'm a relative newbie here but had mentioned that I had a physical scheduled with my PCP and brought up all of my symptoms this morning to her (fatigue, red eyes, lack of menstruation-TMI, I know) and she has ordered some blood work and just wanted to make sure that she is covering everything so....she ordered a Lipid Panel, a 25-Hydroxy Vitamin D, TSH with T4 Free Reflex, FSH, Vitamin B12 and Folate Levels, and Iron and Iron binding capacity. Does that about cover it all?? Anything else that people would recommend? Thanks so much for any assistance or guidance. I went in armed with good questions, thanks to this forum and I truly appreciate it!

Hi Cathy,

That's a fairly comprehensive list, and the results might provide some clues. I'm kind of surprised, though, that given your amenorrhea, she didn't order a CBC, (complete blood test, rather than just a lipid panel), and tests for GnRH and prolaction, (and maybe even estradiol and testosterone). If you've recently been to see a specialist, though, maybe she just assumed that some of those tests had already been done. Or, she may consider those tests to be in the domain of specialists, and outside of her turf.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Tex,
thanks for your input. I had a CBC done recently, which came back normal. Not sure about the GnRH and prolactin or the T either? I'll post what if anything the results show. Thanks again!
