Need some advice

Post by LindyLou »

I think this past ten days have been the worse ones in my life. I had to fly down to South Carolina for work on a Volkswagon Instrument Panel we have been having problems with. It has been very challenging with my diet as we had been working fifteen hour days and mostly grabbing food on the run or while at the plant in Greenville. While I was down there, I got a call from my sister that my mom was back in the hospital. It turns out that she contracted a staff infection and was septic. So I took a flight out to Seattle. After surviving breast cancer and a triple bypass, the infection has now settled into the valves of her heart. She has put up a very good fight for the last two days but has decided enough is enough. She told the doctors yesterday that she wanted to be taken off all of the meds they had her hooked up to, so now I'm sitting by her bedside waiting for the Lord to take her. I have had some problems regarding my MC.... Digestively it is manageable however my gums are so inflamed right now it feels almost like they are blistered. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, what can I do or take to alleviate the discomfort? Once she does pass, we will be taking her to Florida to be buried beside my dad so it's still going to be a while before I get back home to my doctor . Thanks in advance for your advice.

Linda,

I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's condition. That's really a tough situation to be in.

Thinking back, one of the early allergy problems I had, was that after using the mouthwash, Scope, for many years, I suddenly developed an allergy to it. One day, I noticed that my mouth seemed to be on fire, but I couldn't figure out why. The next morning, before I even finished rinsing my mouth with the Scope, it felt as though it was on fire, again. I spit it out, and looked in the mirror, and my gums and the inside of my cheeks were red and burning. I never used a mouth wash again, and the problem has never returned.

It might be something other than a mouthwash, but my guess is that something along the lines of a breath freshener, or something of that sort, might be the culprit. Of course, it could indeed be a satellite issue of MC, but if it is, it is almost certainly due to a mast cell issue. At least, that's my 2 cents worth.

I hope you can track down whatever is causing it.

Lord, I just ask, in Your mighty name, to give Linda supernatural peace and love during this time of need. Bless her physically and spiritually; I ask for a covering of protection over Linda and her mother with the blood of Jesus, and to surround them with guardian angels. Heavenly Father, heal Linda's pain, wrap Your loving arms around her and keep her calm and sure with the knowledge that all things are done according to Your time and purpose. Amen.

Linda, I will be heading "upstairs" tonight with prayers for you and your dear mother.

Sorry to hear of your horrendous weeks. big hugs

:bigbighug:

when my histamine issue was quite bad, my gums and tongue was very swollen, i had permanent indentations on my tongue where it was swollen against my teeth.

and in line with tex's suggestion, with the travels have you happened to use a different brand of toothpaste or mouthwash??

take care of you (as much as you can right now)

Linda,

So sorry to hear about your horrific week, and the condition of your mother. Will be sending lots of positive thoughts your way that you may find the strength to handle what's before you. I have also had problems with gum and tongue tenderness and sores and believe it is somehow connected with MC. You could try rinsing with warm salt water before meals - that should help ease the pain a bit.

Love,
Kari

Linda,
So sorry about the week you are having. Hopefully your MC will stay in control despite all the stress.

We had a discussion about "oil pulling" here recently - basically rinsing your mouth with vegetable oils and spitting it out. The jury is out on this practice as a cure-all for systemic problems, but I think there is good reason to beleive it will help with oral health problems. It seems the oral bacteria are attracted for the fatty acids in the oil so the mouth is better cleansed than with other types of rinses. At a minimum, it can't hurt...

My thanks to all of you for your thoughts, prayers and kind words. I know the conversations have increased on this board regarding mast cell issues, but until I read the responses to this thread, I didn't think they were applicable to me.
Tex, it was a last minute call for me to go out of town and I had to pack in a hurry so I didn't even pack mouthwash. I have had this issue in the past and I don't know how to describe it to my dentist without him misinterpreting what I'm describing. Before, my gums would feel so inflamed that it hurt to have my upper and bottom teeth meet. I think that was misinterpreted as some sort of TMJ issue which I don't believe it is. It's that way now but the new symptom is my gums feeling like they have blistered. The one thing that is different is I Do Not have my OralB electric toothbrush but I'm using a very soft manual one and not trying to brush aggressively. Still, I have always thought that all my dental problems are related to LC. I have a flare and simutaniously have problems with my mouth. Probably have had many unnecessary surgeries too. I'm staying at me sisters house when I am not at the hospital and I think there is gluten in everything she has to eat. So, I have been living off of frito's, bean dip, Wendy's baked potato and chili. I stepped on the scale today and found I'm now down another 5 lbs for a total weight loss of 38lbs in 10 months. I realized I was overweight, but this was not how I wanted to lose it.
Gabes, I am going to check into the histamine issues when I get back, if I recall correctly, you are taking over the counter antihistamine . What type works for you? I can stop by a drug store later when my sister comes to relieve me.
And Zizzle, I will look into oil pulling. That is something I have never heard of before but it seems like it may
be worth a try.
I know this is pretty long, but once again, I do appreciate all of your kind words and prayers. They mean so much to me.

God Bless

Hi Linda, first I am sorry to hear about your mother and certainly I hope this all works out the best it can in these trying times. Certainly as I read your post, one thing that comes to mind is stress, that seems to play a big part for a lot of us the activity of MC. It is hard to eat out and avoid gluten or other foods that bother us. Most of the packaged foods that are processed have a high likelyhood of being contaminated, or having simpy too many ingredients for our systems to handle.

When my MC is flaring up, I find that I just can't tolerate a high number of ingredients even though they all should be safe. I know I have read others here mention that much more than 5 ingredients can cause problems and I think that's about right for me as well.

I am awaiting results for a mast cell test as well that was done last week during my colonoscopy, I'm curious as to those results given I have had what seems to be typical for mast cell reactions.

Take care and the best of wishes with all that you are dealing with.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. Last night mom peacefully slipped away and is now walking with our Lord..... She will be dearly missed. We are now in the process of transporting her from Seattle to Florida where she will rest beside my father. I started oil pulling a couple of days ago and am getting some relief. Once again, thank you everyone. The support from this family is wonderful.
